Job Description
The Position
The single largest scaling challenge that we have today in Framework is that our CEO (who is also writing this job description) is also our Hardware Product Manager. Were creating a Product Manager Hardware role to resolve this. We have four product lines today and our mission demands that we bring our mission and product philosophy to even more of consumer electronics. Youll bring the necessary combination of technical depth product taste audience/competitive understanding cross-functional connection ability and sheer willpower to make this possible. Youll be the overall owner of one or more product lines across categories we are already in and ones were expanding into on our roadmap.
This role is wide-ranging and we arent necessarily looking for someone who has done exactly what we do before (there arent a lot of you out there). Instead were looking for someone who can translate their existing experience and rapidly come up to speed on our product approach. This means that depending on where you are on your journey this role could range from Product Manager to Senior Product Manager or Lead Product Manager. Were a remote-first company but for this role our preference is a hybrid working-mode from our San Francisco headquarters.
What Youll Do
- Be the overall owner of one or more of our hardware product lines.
- Be the cross-functional glue between design engineering operations and Go to Market teams driving alignment and facilitating decisions.
- Research competitive and audience dynamics of consumer electronics categories to identify and exploit market opportunities.
- Ensure the products were launching are robust high performance and high quality by being the harshest user and holding the necessary bar of excellence.
- Tactically write MRDs PRDs and technical specifications collaborate with the engineering and design teams to iterate on hardware drive external partners and suppliers build business models develop and execute go to market strategies with the Marketing team and more.
What You Need
- Prior experience as the main owner of a technically complex zero to one consumer product (ideally a hardware product) in a small team or startup.
- Depth of understanding of the target audiences (Linux users power users environmentally conscious consumers etc) and cultural and competitive dynamics of the categories were entering.
- Creative ideation ability combined with the technical depth to translate ideas to reality.
- Extreme drive with the ability to bulldoze through obstacles while also remaining tactful and effective at getting buy-in.
- Product taste (really).
Whats Nice to Have
- Previous experience as a Hardware Product Manager in a startup.
- Prior experience as a startup Founder or Co-Founder.
- A career background or education in hardware or software engineering.
- Familiarity with Linux PC gaming PC building and/or DIY/repair.
- A passion for consumer rights and sustainability.

The pay range for this role is $150000 - $180000 per year. The base salary range for this position may vary depending on various factors such as professional background work experience work location market demand etc. In certain circumstances the final offer may vary from the amounts shown in this job description.
