Description

The Desktop & Mobile Administrator is responsible for continually improving the security and reliability of county desktop computers and mobile devices. The position is responsible for enforcing policies through software tools to ensure compliance with various security and technology standards and guidelines. The position is responsible for ensuring county computers and mobile devices are updated and patched in a timely manner to minimize exposure to security vulnerabilities. In addition the position is also responsible for understanding and maintaining compliance with software licensing agreements and tracking software installed on county computers and devices. The Desktop & Mobile Administrator is required to provide excellent customer service resolve problems in a timely manner communicate effectively and be a positive contributor to the Denton County Technology Services team.

Examples of Duties

Monitors updates and maintains all software on county computers and mobile devices to improve user experience and efficiency and reduce software and training costs. Makes use of advanced server and cloud-based desktop management tools to perform largescale high-risk deployments of new software and upgrades.

Tests and deploys operating system and application software security patches and bug fixes.

Tests and deploys hardware BIOS firmware and drivers. Utilizes advanced server and cloud based tools to automate the deployment process. Develops customized software deployment scripts based on department requirements. Configures and enforces security standards on desktops and mobile devices.

Manages risks associated with software license compliance. Analyzes software license contracts and End User License Agreements (EULA) to ensure legal compliance and prevent legal liability.

Monitors purchase orders for purchased software and computers. Updates inventory as necessary. Installs configures and maintains advanced server and cloud-based software license management tools. Creates SQL queries and custom reports to perform audits over software license data.

Performs software audits to identify out-of-date software and makes recommendations for replacement or upgrades.

Configures and maintains Mobile Device Management (MDM) software and ensures mobile device implementations align with county policy and standards. Manages Apple business account for Apple iOS devices and supports Federated Apple ID.

Researches and identifies known desktop and mobile software security vulnerabilities and trends. Analyzes vulnerability data to understand how it applies to the county and how it impacts various teams and IT components.

Utilizes the CIS-CAT Pro Assessor to develop a hardened gold image for all county desktops and laptops. Manages software and drivers installed on the gold image. Monitors the CIS Dashboard to maintain the hardened gold image.

Acts as a project manager for desktop mobile and software-related projects and upgrades. Educates and prepares employees for new software and upgrades; coordinates training programs.

Researches evaluates tests and recommends new software beneficial for county employees. Obtains software quotes and processes orders. Recommends cost-effective licensing models to reduce overall software licensing costs.

Performs basic server and network administration. Performs network user account management (creates modifies and deletes user accounts). Manages computer objects user account permissions and group policy within Active Directory.

Utilizes security scanning tools to scan county computers and mobile devices for known vulnerabilities and develops a plan to remediate the vulnerabilities.

Provides advanced technical support installation and repairs for computers printers peripherals and software. Assists with answering and supporting Help Desk calls during high volume periods.

Develops and recommends policies and procedures related to software management.

Provides a weekly written report to the Desktop Operations Manager.

Follows county policies and best practices related to information security; exercises good judgment to protect the confidentiality integrity and availability of Denton County computer systems and electronic records; supports compliance with CJIS HIPAA and other information security regulations.

Displays and reflects the culture mission vision values and direction of the department.

Regular and punctual attendance is required.

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and a minimum four years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

Associate Degree preferred.

Experience with Microsoft System Center or InTune and enterprise-class desktop software patch and licensing management tools preferred.

Must not have any Class B misdemeanor or higher convictions or deferred adjudications.
