Remuneration: $83280 - $113025 pa Level A $118974 - $141283 pa Level B (plus 17% employer superannuation)

Within the Faculty the Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering (ECSE) offers internationally acclaimed programs in power systems telecommunications electronics robotics and biomedical engineering. We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Fellow (Level A or Level B) to join our team on the ARC Linkage Project: Building Australias Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Infrastructure. This collaborative project brings together leading researchers from Monash University the Australian National University the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales alongside two key industry partners.

About the Role

In this role you will contribute to the development of advanced control and optimisation frameworks to enhance the resilience safety and efficiency of electricity grids integrated with fast-charging Electric Vehicles (EVs). You will focus on designing novel controllers for EV fast-charging infrastructure that operate in coordination with renewable energy sources such as wind and solar.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of cutting-edge research and real-world impact with outcomes expected to include both high-quality academic publications and tangible benefits for industry and infrastructure development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality research in control systems optimisation and power systems.
  • Collaborate with Chief Investigators and Partner Investigators across multiple institutions and industry.
  • Contribute to the translation of research into practical applications.
  • (Level B only) Lead research activities and contribute to mentoring junior researchers.
  • Apply for independent research funding to support your own research trajectory.

About You

You must be available to start mid-to-late 2025

Level A applicants are expected to have:

  • A PhD (or be near completion) in engineering applied mathematics or computer science.
  • Experience in control theory and/or optimisation and a strong interest in power systems
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and publish in high-quality venues.

Level B applicants will have:

  • A completed PhD in engineering applied mathematics or computer science.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and publish in high-quality venues.
  • Experience in collaborative research environments and industry engagement.
  • Experience in control theory or optimisation and a strong interest in power systems
