WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING HERE AT TEAM RC

The Public Works Services Department is looking for a knowledgeable experienced and dynamic leader to manage our Fleet and Warehouse operations. The ideal candidate will be able to use written and oral communication skills; read and interrupt data information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; work under deadlines with constant interruptions; and interact with City Staff customers contractors vendors in explaining programs and resolving potential conflicts. The ideal candidate will be able to work both independently and as a member of a highly functioning team. Youll be responsible for:

  • Guiding and leading the fleet and warehouse team consisting of a lead mechanic two mechanics an inventory specialist and two part-time maintenance technicians.
  • Managing the fuel station contracts for the Public Works Service Center Sports Complex and CNG Fuel Station.
  • Warehouse inventory and annual audits.
  • The Basic Inspection of Terminals (BIT) Program.
  • SCAQMD and CARB annual reports.
  • Evaluating the fleet and warehouse operation and making recommendations to improve efficiency and workflow.
  • Writing vehicle and equipment specifications and the surplus of vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records for vehicles and equipment repairs.
  • Managing budget expenditures and evaluating replacement and projection of costs for new city vehicles and equipment.

ARE YOU QUALIFIED

Education and/or Experience:
Graduation from high school and supplemented by two years of automotive classes or the equivalent of an ASE certification in general automotive repair specialized training in the maintenance and repair of compressed natural gas diesel electric hybrid and gasoline-powered equipment and vehicles. Four years of increasingly responsible experience in supervising fleet maintenance work which involved the development and administration of maintenance program activities or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities is preferred. Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college with a major in public administration business administration or a closely related field is highly desirable.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of techniques and methods of overhauling and repairing gasoline and diesel-powered equipment and related components including engines transmissions suspensions starting systems fuel systems air conditioning systems and electrical systems; theory care and operation of compressed natural gas diesel electric hybrid and gasoline-powered internal combustion engines and mechanical components for the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment; methods materials tools and equipment of the trade and their use in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment; preventive maintenance inspection methods. Ability to use manuals; use automated recordkeeping systems; use computerized diagnostic equipment and diagnostic techniques to locate mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work; repair and overhaul gasoline and diesel-powered equipment and related components with minimum supervision; understand and follow oral and written directions; prepare and maintain simple records; work safely; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Special Requirements:
Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate California drivers license and a satisfactory driving record.
