Job Description

Description / Position Overview

About the Job: Perform professional-level duties to support the Investigations Division Special Victims Section and other units/patrol as needed. Assist in conducting a variety of tasks relating to criminal investigations and prosecution as part of a multidisciplinary team serving victims and witnesses of crime.


This position requires working on a rotating on-call basis for after hours and weekend investigations.

As an Investigative Specialist you will:

  • Conduct recorded victim and witness forensic interviews for a variety of cases to include (but not limited to) child sexual and physical abuse domestic violence homicide and crimes against at-risk adults and elders.
  • Document victim and witness interactions in detailed police reports accessible to the courts and public.
  • Participate in case staffings multi-disciplinary team meetings evidence collection and other administrative and investigative tasks related to criminal investigations and child safety.
  • Provide training to police personnel team partners and community members.
  • Testify in criminal and civil proceedings as an expert witness and assist members of the District Attorneys Office in the prosecution of criminal cases.
  • Continued review and research of best practices trends and theories as related to forensic interviewing victimology and child maltreatment.
  • Other duties and administrative tasks as needed and assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of techniques theories and methods of forensic interviewing
  • Knowledge of criminal procedures related to evidence and sex-related criminal investigations
  • Knowledge of workings and protocol of a police department
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of crisis intervention
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of social work
  • Knowledge of the principles of filing and record keeping
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of training and educational presentation
  • Knowledge of modern office equipment including computers
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal state and local laws codes and regulations
  • Ability to conduct in-service training and educational presentations
  • Ability to maintain accurate files and videotape records
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Minimum Qualifications

*Related experience is experience which includes experience interviewing children and interviewing children as it relates to physical or sexual abuse.


Education and Experience Equivalence:One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.
