Job Description
Position: Packaging Engineer
Location: Lafayette IN
Compensation: $80000 $90000 base benefits
Overview
A U.S.-based manufacturer with multiple facilities across the country is looking to add a Packaging Engineer to its operations team. This role will play a key part in designing packaging solutions that are cost-effective compliant and logistically optimized. You ll collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering Supply Chain and IT to ensure packaging design supports quality regulatory and sustainability goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Design packaging using CAD software; ensure durability efficiency and compliance
- Choose appropriate packaging materials based on performance cost and shipping conditions
- Conduct tests (drop vibration temperature etc. to validate packaging integrity
- Partner with Project Management and IT to interpret and implement customer labeling requirements
- Analyze and reduce packaging waste cost and inefficiencies
- Ensure regulatory and environmental compliance for all packaging solutions
- Develop standard packaging procedures manuals and cost tracking systems
- Support quality audits and packaging supplier performance
- Oversee packaging return programs (pallets reels etc. and report on reverse logistics performance
Qualifications
- B.S. in Packaging Engineering Industrial Engineering or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of packaging design experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting
- CAD proficiency required
- Familiarity with packaging compliance and regulations
- Strong analytical communication and problem-solving skills
- Experience with MRP/ERP systems (MFG/PRO a plus)
- Willingness to travel occasionally
