Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: 

Responsible for providing highly responsive rapid and reliable voice communications utilizing equipment including but not limited to hand-held radio transmitter computer-aided telephone switchboard and computer terminal.  Administers the resolution of minor and major emergency situations and/or alarms within the hospital or on hospital property.  Interacts with vendors patients families and visitors ranging from school-age children to the elderly.

JOB TASK LIST

1.  Responsible for operating a hand-held radio transmitter telephone switchboard computer terminal with input keyboard and other equipment as needed.

2.   Receive screen and process calls for emergency codes and non-emergency service both from the team members of Upper Chesapeake Health System and the public.

3.  Coordinates response to emergency life-threatening patient conditions.  Supply and/or relay information via radio to appropriate Security Personnel and Team Members engaged in Code Responses maintain a written and computer-generated record of response location involvement and time parameters for Code Responses and monitor Code situations to dispatch Police Fire or EMS uniform response if needed. 

4. Monitor alarm systems including fire water flow emergency panic alarms door activation alarms boiler room air pressure and emergency room and behavior health areas.

5.  Maintain proper order of equipment including but not limited to shift check of Fire Alarm Printer and review Pass-on Log Book shift radio test to Security Officers.

6.  Interact with visitors and patients complying with their needs and/or requests for appointments and transportation to treatment areas. Communicate professionally and avoid using slang sarcasm or inappropriate/abusive language while speaking with callers or clients in person.

7. Familiar with Code Yellow emergency procedure and policy fluent in the procedure of Emergency Codes the performance of overhead pages and the process of the electronic page to beepers. When so ordered during an emergency Code Yellow requiring their services work additional hours as their supervisor may direct.

8. Responsible for the switchboard area security  allowing only authorized personnel in the area to avoid unnecessary background noise and ensure patient confidentiality

9.  Monitor observation cameras covering all areas of the hospital property both inside the building and outside parking lots.

10. Interact well and collaborate with other team members appropriately brief oncoming Communications Operators maintain the switchboard area in a high state of cleanliness and maintain respect to equipment.

11. Maintain orderly flow of traffic in accordance with set procedure for toll facility and access/egress gates for the parking garage facility

12.  Demonstrates interpersonal skills appropriate to the age/developmental stage of the patient family and/or visitor.

13.  Is required to work a 24/7 operation including but not limited to split shifts days nights weekends holidays and extra hours as needed.

13. Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications :

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Education & Training:  High school diploma or equivalency

Work Orientation & Experience:  Experience operating a multi-line switchboard preferred.  Computer Experience.

Skills & Abilities:  Excellent verbal communications skills and good manual dexterity.  Ability to quickly analyze problems and develop and implement solutions.  Outstanding service excellence skills.  Must be able to work well under pressure and during emergency situations.  Able to quickly dispatch incoming calls.

Pay Range: $17- $22.47
