Job Description
We are working closely alongside with London Borough of Lambeth to assist with the appointment of a Prison Librarian on a 3-month contract likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: 20.45 - 26.95 per hour
Summary:
The Prison Librarian is responsible for delivering a comprehensive inclusive and high-quality library service within HMP Brixton. The role supports prisoner rehabilitation through access to recreational educational and legal resources in alignment with national prison standards and CILIP guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily library operations ensuring high standards of service delivery.
- Deliver library services that meet prisoners recreational educational cultural and information needs.
- Recruit train and supervise Prisoner Assistants and other assigned staff.
- Maintain efficient operational systems (e.g. stock cataloguing circulation).
- Support legal information needs through tailored reference and enquiry services.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent.
- A professional librarian qualification is desirable.
Essentials:
- Experience working in libraries or similar public-facing environments.
- Proven ability to engage and communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
- Competency in ICT literacy and numeracy.
- Awareness of current trends in prison libraries and related professional practices.
