Capital University invites applications for the Associate Director of Career Development engaging primarily in career advising and employer relations initiatives. The Associate Director will also be a campus leader collaboratively developing and promoting high impact practice experiences for student growth and development.
Responsibilities:
- Career Planning: Advise and coach traditional students adult & graduate students and alumni; Assess students needs and advance students career development; Develop and facilitate programs and classroom presentations on a variety of career topics; Create career-related educational materials including web content; Establish partnerships with academic and administrative departments to share and promote high-impact practices; Assist students and alumni with rsums cover letters job search and interviewing skills; Connect students and alumni to internships and full-time positions.
- Employer Recruitment: Manage web-based job and resume posting system (Handshake) and support employers use and needs to connect with students and alumni.
- Student Supervision: Assist with daily operation of Career Development office Train and supervise Peer Career Advisors including summer training weekly training and one-on-one coaching Manage web-based job and resume posting system (Handshake).
- Major Exploration: Leads University support for Exploring majors from point of deposit through major selection including individualized interactions for establishing areas of interest assigning and training Exploring Advisors prepping students for academic advising conversations during Summer Orientation and support for declaring a major; Supports students who have declared a major but want to change their major to Exploring or another major
- Student Success: Serve as a Student Success coach to designated students as well as provide walk-in support for students in need Assists with degree audit adjustments as needed.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree (M. A.) or equivalent preferred; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to understand communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures. Possesses a positive attitude towards cultural differences. Willing to gain knowledge of different cultural practices and world views.
- To perform this job successfully an individual should have excellent skills in the Microsoft suite of products inDesign Canva and social media platforms.
- Ability to respond effectively to the sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to effectively present information to a wide range of constituents. Ability to facilitate discussion groups and workshops; ability to coordinate events; ability to update and maintain social media presence and organizational listservs.
