Job Description

Position Title:
Special Education Teacher Emotional Support (High School)
Full-Time 10-Month Position

Location:
Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School
2040 Avenue C Bethlehem PA 18017

Position Summary:
Lehigh Valley Academy is seeking a compassionate and experienced Special Education Teacher to lead an Emotional Support classroom for high school students. This position is part of a collaborative team that includes a dedicated SEL Coach and is supported by the Special Education Supervisor. The ideal candidate has experience working with students with emotional and behavioral needs and is committed to supporting student success through collaboration structure and relationship-building.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with academic subject area teachers to support the implementation of IEPs within the general education curriculum

  • Provide push-in support for students in regular education classes as needed and in coordination with the Special Education Supervisor

  • Develop and monitor behavior support plans

  • Contribute to a structured supportive classroom environment for students assigned to the emotional support program

  • Utilize trauma-informed and restorative practices in daily interactions

  • Coordinate regularly with the Mental Health Coach and other support personnel

  • Maintain compliance with special education documentation and timelines

  • Communicate effectively with families and guardians regarding student progress and needs

Qualifications:

  • Valid Pennsylvania Special Education Certification (Required)

  • Experience working in an emotional support or behavior support classroom (Preferred)

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care behavioral supports and inclusive practices

Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
