About the Role
The Traffic Controller at Brisbane Grammar School plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians within the school grounds. This position is vital for maintaining a secure environment for students staff and visitors during peak traffic times.
The key responsibilities of the Traffic Controller include:
- Monitoring traffic flow in and around the school premises to minimise congestion and ensure safety.
- Directing vehicles entering and exiting the school grounds providing clear instructions to drivers.
- Ensuring pedestrian safety by controlling crossings and guiding students while they are on foot.
- Communicating effectively with school staff parents and visitors regarding traffic regulations and safety procedures.
- Responding promptly to any incidents or emergencies that may arise during traffic management operations.
- Maintaining a visible presence during busy drop-off and pick-up times to deter unsafe driving behaviours.
- Conducting regular inspections of traffic management signage barriers and equipment to ensure they are in good working order.
The Traffic Controller must demonstrate excellent communication skills quick decision-making abilities and a strong commitment to promoting safety within the school environment. This role requires an individual who can work collaboratively with others while remaining vigilant in their duties.
Hours of Work
- Split Shift - 5.5 hours per day
- Morning: 6:00am to 8:30am (2.5 hours)
- Afternoon: 2:00pm to 5:00pm (3 hours)

Required Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage stressful situations
- Proficient in traffic management systems and protocols
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Good problem-solving skills and decision-making abilities
- Keen understanding of safety regulations and compliance standards
Required experience
- Previous experience in traffic control or a related field preferred
- Experience working in educational or large public environments is an advantage
- Proven track record of managing traffic flow effectively during peak times
- Familiarity with emergency response procedures and protocols
- Experience using communication devices for coordination purposes (e.g. radios)
- A valid traffic controller licence or certification is highly desirable
