Job Description:
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Service Responsibilities:
To replace a permanent employee on a casual basis performing general supervision and care of a classroom safety and well-being of the children.
Interact with the children to provide support and care.
Recognize and respond to the needs of each child by using developmentally appropriate teaching and child behavior management techniques.
Assist with effective risk management; monitor food safety medication storage/disbursement allergies and facility cleanliness/maintenance; provide emergency first aid and complete reports and file incident reports as required.
Assist in orientating new children and families; provides on-going feedback on childs development and behaviour.
Participate in special events put on by the Child Care Centre.
Assist in the planning preparing and implementing stimulating age-appropriate activities that encourage childrens creativity and learning and promote each childs social emotional cognitive and physical development.
Role models appropriate behaviours and attitudes supporting the mission of The Learning Corner.
Ensure that all information about children family staff visitors and volunteers are strictly confidential; and that activity records and statistics are stored in a secure location.
Establish and maintain regular communication with parents.
Must know and implement: Centre routines and practices; CCEYA regulations; the Health Department guidelines.
Attend and participate actively in all program/centre staff parental or other meetings as required.
Share responsibility for maintaining program equipment in good repair; assist with toy/equipment disinfecting.
Share responsibility for maintaining the play environments and storage areas in an organized and clutter-free condition.
Familiar with environmental assessment tool (ECERS) used by the centre.
Engage in positive collaboration with the other programs and staff of the Centre in coordinating the effective use of equipment facilities and personnel.
May be required to safely escort children to and from school and on trips or walks outside the centre.
Perform other position related duties as required.
2. Organizational Responsibilities:
Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Maintain information in confidence as required.
Participate as an active and responsible team member in all work groups through which position responsibilities are achieved.
Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner and assist personnel whom the position supports in developing those skills as required.
Participate in probationary and annual performance appraisal process.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.
Participate fully and consistently as a conscientious team member in caring for the children and in the overall operation of the program and centre; maintain regular and open communication with program team members and all other co-workers.
Work with the Supervisory staff to ensure that the program operates at all times in compliance with all child care licensing standards contractual legal and internal accreditation requirements; ensure full compliance with child protection legislation and intervene when necessary.
Participate in regular fire drills and other emergency procedures.
Participate in ongoing professional development and attend/maintain all mandatory training.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Internal relationships:
o Direct Manager and other management members staff volunteers and children.
o Participate in regular staff meetings to review operational effectiveness.
External relationships:
o Parents Health Inspector Supporting Agencies
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:
This position reports directly to the Child Care Supervisor or designate.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
Occasionally responsible for the receipt of childcare fee.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal hours of work shifts can range from 3 to 8.5 hours (which includes a hour unpaid meal break)
Normal location of work is at The Learning Corner Child Care Centre 3199 Lauzon Road Windsor ON N8T 2Z7
This is a casual/on call position with no set hours per week.
The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Armys Mission Statement in a professional manner exemplifying Christian standards of conduct.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Qualifications and Certifications:
Completed High School plus specialized courses up to six (6) months.
Early Childhood Education Diploma registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario preferred.
Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
Provide an original copy of a Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
Proof of Immunization
A letter from a licensed medical doctor confirming that the candidate is medically fit to work in a child care centre.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience including working with children in a childcare environment.
Working knowledge of the CCEYA.
Skills and Capabilities:
Physical coordination and agility in order to lead games and activities for children.
Ability to lift/carry children stand for extended periods of time and work at the height of children.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to exercise good judgement.
Self-motivated/disciplined.
Lead by example by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible.
Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
Exhibit good listening skills have strong oral/written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills integrity and adaptability.
Effective organizational and time management skills.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $18.99 to $23.73 with a maximum of $28.48.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
