Pay Grade: 11 $19.47 - $25.11 hourly (does not include 3rd Shift & weekend differential)

The Maine Department of Corrections Mission is to reduce the likelihood that juvenile and adult offenders will reoffend by providing practices programs and services which are evidence-based and which hold the offenders accountable.

Residents at Leading the Way Transition Center in Bangor are on probation or re-entering the community and need a place to hang their hat while that process is put in motion. This facility is an extension of the mission to help further ensure those clients moving on from our facilities and in the community have every opportunity to keep moving forward.

Sometimes physical security measures arent enough to maintain a safe environment for residents. This is where we rely on our Correctional Resident Monitors to step in to ensure the premises are secure against fire theft vandalism and unauthorized entry within a State of Maine facility.

Make a career as a Correctional Resident Monitor fit your schedule: were hiring for full-time positions with night and weekend shifts available.

A typical shift involves:

  • safeguarding staff buildings and equipment
  • patrolling buildings and grounds
  • observing and reporting irregularities such as fire unlocked doors vandalism or the presence of unauthorized persons
  • monitor access and flow of people to prevent problems and unauthorized individuals from entering

A successful candidate must have knowledge of:

  • security policies procedures and standard operating procedures
  • security systems procedures rules and regulations
  • emergency notification protocols
  • record management and applicable computer software programs Microsoft Office
  • basic operation and functions of heating/cooling equipment

And the ability to:

  • remain calm under stress and to multitask
  • recognize abnormal loud or untoward behavior and offer guidance to sustain order
  • observe and communicate situations and behavior in detail
  • maintain records of activity
  • respond to basic living needs and daily living complaints lodged by occupants.
  • recognize formal complaints for referral to superior.
  • document and track issued items distributed to occupants.

Within six months of hire new employees will receive training paid for by the Department of Corrections to attain certifications in:

  • American Heart Association First Aid
  • CPR
  • AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent 19 years of age and work experience that demonstrates the ability to use tact when advising others and apply independent judgment in handling exceptions to established work assignments priorities.
