PURPOSE STATEMENT
This position is responsible for assisting the certificated construction trades teacher in planning coordinating operation and instructional support tasks related to the students educational development within the school environment and by being a positive role model for students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Work jointly with the SEA-Teach Construction Trades teacher in supervising and monitoring skills development of the students.
- Be responsible for site safety and ensure the jobsite is safe as well as manage compliance with established safety policies.
- Work with individual and groups of program students.
- Promote positive public relations when communicating with the public while understanding and maintaining student confidentiality.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- May serve on various district committees and/or departmental work teams.
- Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to the building administrator; receives direction and guidance from the construction trades teacher
MENTAL DEMANDS
- Required to deal with a wide range of student staff and public behaviors and needs in a positive and service oriented manner with working knowledge of social emotional learning.
- May experience shifts in work schedule or work site according to district needs.
- Experiences frequent interruptions and shifting priorities.
- May occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students or parents knowing when to refer or seek council from construction trades teacher or appropriate administrator.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Amount of standing sitting kneeling crouching twisting bending and walking will vary.
- Push or pull 18-26 lbs.
- Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to lift overhead.
- May be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or GED.
- AA Degree 72 college level credits or ability to pass the Federal Para-Educator test.
- Experience working with students in an educational setting and/or evidence of an interest in supporting learning experiences.
- Minimum of three years work experience in residential and light commercial construction.
- Evidence of experience training others in residential and light commercial construction from selection demolition site work foundations framing siding and finish carpentry construction skills.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others.
- Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff students and patrons of the district.
- Experience working with high school age students.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students staff and parents including phone and email communication.
- Ability to take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
- Ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
- Ability to work independently.
- Possess the desire to be a role model for students and to interact positively and appropriately.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with students staff and the public.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with continual interruption.
- Willingness to learn new tools and techniques.
Licenses/Special Requirements
- Requires fingerprinting and background check.
- Must complete Walla Walla Public Schools Risk Management and Bloodborne Pathogens Training upon hire.
- May require a CPR/First Aid card depending on job assignment.
