Itinerant Instrumental Music Teacher (Orchestra)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General All Levels.
  • Bachelors degree
  • Experience with English Language Learners Preferred

JOB DETAILS

The Lynn Public Schools Music Department is looking for a terrific Music Teacher to provide instrumental music instruction to students in grades 4 through 12 with a focus on Orchestral Strings. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in the mechanics of playing orchestral string instruments and helping young musicians develop appropriate technique and will have experience with lesson planning assessing using data to direct instruction and providing students with regular feedback about their progress towards learning goals. The Lynn Public Schools curriculum is based on the MA Curriculum Frameworks and the teacher will have knowledge about the standards and their progression to plan effective standards-based lessons.

PERFORMANCERESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Planning and delivering 30-minute small group lessons to beginner string students throughout the week
  • Planning and leading a Middle School Orchestra Ensemble
  • Participation co-teaching the after-school All-City Middle School Orchestra and supervising students on transportation to and from rehearsals (stipend available for this work after school rehearsals are once or twice a month between November and May)
  • Planning and implementing standards-based Music lessons with clear objectives
  • Designing and demonstrating differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students. (Modify scaffold etc. for Special Education and English Learner Education)
  • Using a variety of formal and informal assessments to accurately measure student progress toward mastery of grade-level standards and to modify further instruction.
  • Providing a motivating and stimulating safe and supportive learning environment
  • Dedication to recruiting orchestra members
  • Adapting Music lessons for individual small group and remedial instruction to meet the needs of identified students or subgroups of students
  • Developing and maintaining pupil-teacher relationships conducive to effective teaching and learning
  • Maintaining a growth mindset
  • Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior
  • Participating in school-wide and department-wide professional development activities
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students parents staff and the community including collaborating with colleagues on curriculum lesson and assessment design
  • Using computers and other technology to support student learning in and out of the classroom
  • Rehearsing with students and leading various music performances for the school community.
  • Willingness to participate in music department learning opportunities
  • Excellent Communication Skills
