Job Description

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice or related field
  • Masters degree (preferred)


Certification

  • Mandt Certification (Relational and Technical) preferred
  • Training in Trauma Informed Care preferred
  • Valid drivers license and dependable vehicle for primarily in-district travel


Experience

  • Experience working with students with behavior disorders or special needs
  • Experience with de-escalation
  • Experience working in an intervention setting as well as classroom
  • Experience in solutions process
  • Experience working with students who exhibit chronic behavior concerns
  • Experience planning and delivering professional development
  • Experience working in a diverse urban school system
  • Experience working in intensive individualized programs addressing specific instructional and behavioral goals


Skills Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of/willingness to learn applied behavior analysis
  • Knowledge of/ability to implement de-escalation and behavior management techniques
  • Knowledge of intensive behavior intervention techniques
  • Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices especially as they relate to students with learning disabilities developmental delays and autistic behavior Knowledge of basic subjects taught in district schools including arithmetic grammar spelling language and reading including punctuation and vocabulary in order to assist with instructional and related activities in a learning environment
  • Knowledge of safe practices in classroom and health regulations
  • Knowledge of basic instructional methods and techniques
  • Ability to monitor and observe student behavior according to approved policies and procedures
  • Proven record keepings skills

Job Duties:

  • Follows district protocols for the Crisis Prevention De-Escalation (CPD) team
  • Learn and implement new information
  • Implement behavior intervention plans
  • Coach and train adults on behavior interventions
  • Oversee the efforts and professional development of building Behavior Intervention Specialist(s)
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure positive learning environments for students
  • Provide individual support to students (this may include assistance with grooming healthcare mobility physical/verbal aggression token economies and reinforcement)
  • Provide program support as needed
  • Conduct preference assessments
  • Implement and support Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) initiatives
  • Assist with de-escalating students that are in crisis and/or approaching crisis
  • Direct student group actives as assigned
  • Understanding of the Mandt Crisis Cycle
  • Assist in providing instruction to behaviorally challenged students individually or in small groups
  • Reinforce instruction as directed by the teacher as needed
  • Administer one-to-one intensive behavior intervention to students
  • Actively participate in behavior intervention meeting and provide professional development to staff
  • Communicate in a clear and positive manner
  • Builds positive relationships with students and staff
  • Collect various forms of data
  • Record anecdotal student progress notes and maintain behavioral charting data
  • Monitor and assist students in prescribed learning activities
  • Monitor observe and report behavior of students according to approved procedures including but not limited to progress regarding student behavior and performance
  • Assist students and parents by providing proper examples
  • Provide emotional support and general guidance as directed
  • Communicate with teachers regarding programs and materials to meet student needs
  • Lead Behavior Team
  • Work cohesively with administrators teachers and staff
  • Follow health and safety practices and regulations
  • Assist students in developing self-help and self-advocacy skills as directed
  • Assist in implementing specialized student plans (IEP BIP 504 HIP) as needed
  • Maintain strict confidentiality
  • Follows and promotes Mandt philosophy
  • Attends all meetings as assigned
  • Support and collaborate with school teams in developing and maintaining behavior focused programming including but not limited to:
  1. Modeling training and coaching teachers support staff and other school personnel on the use of research-based strategies or promising practices
  2. Assisting school teams in organizing scheduling and classroom setup
  3. Providing staff development utilizing research-based strategies in the areas of behavior assessment intervention and instruction
  4. Developing fidelity checklist for interventions to allow for feedback and follow-up
  5. Evaluating and analyzing behavior intervention plans to determine effectiveness and make data-based decisions
  6. Attending meetings with all interested and appropriate parties (parent school personnel AEA Staff and student) to explain the rationale for use of selected strategies or practices including behavior intervention plans
  7. Supporting and implementing the Districts curriculum standards and benchmarks
  8. Providing active communication and positive relationships with building staff and district personnel
  9. Assisting school staff with strategies that support and meet students needs and achievement of academic goals
