Job Description

Literacy Support Instructional Paraprofessional

Purpose Statement/s: The job of Literacy Support Paraprofessional is done for the purpose/s of assisting elementary students as they work to achieve progress in the area of foundational literacy skills. This support will be provided at a specified school site by conducting district interventions while under the direction of the district Literacy Support team Supervisors.

Essential Job Functions:

* Administers tests for the purpose of evaluating students progress in relation to the interventions.

* Communicates with Literacy Support Team Supervisors and classroom teachers orally and through written communications for the purpose of sharing and reporting student progress results and behaviors.

* Collaborates with site Literacy Support team to create a collegial environment in order to support student learning and continuity within the Literacy Support Program.

* Creates engaging environment for the purpose of student learning utilizing strategies and tools provided in training.

* Implements the specified interventions with fidelity using the resources provided.

* Maintains confidentiality of student data/ records schedules and intervention deadlines.

* Manages Literacy support Program materials data schedules and learning.

* Monitors individual students or small groups for the purpose of providing the designated intervention in a safe and positive environment.

* Participates in Literacy Support trainings throughout the year to learn/review curriculum expectations implementation of new strategies and/or use of new resources.

* Performs digital and paper pencil record keeping and scheduling for the purpose of helping maintain student data for individual teachers and or sites.

Other Job Functions:

* Assists with Designated district assessments.

* Administers pre-K screened at designated site during specified time.

* Preparation of instructional resources needed for the implementation of the interventions. This may include photocopying cutting gluing laminating and/or sorting curriculum resources.

Job Requirements - Qualifications:

* Experience Required: Prior job related experience paid or volunteer with school age children with satisfactory job performance or evaluation.

* Skills Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

Skills to perform basic clerical functions perform basic arithmetic calculations operate standard office equipment use English in verbal and written form use correct grammar punctuation and spelling ability to carry out oral and written instructions.

Knowledge of principles of child development instructional processes.

Abilities to sit for prolonged periods understand and carry out oral and written instructions maintain confidentiality of student records meet schedules and deadlines read/interpret/apply rules regulations policies rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling talking/hearing conversations near/far visual acuity.

* Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent.

* Licenses Certifications Bonding and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance and Valid California Drivers License.
