Interested in contributing to the City of Edmontons goal of Vision Zero by advancing safety and livability within Edmonton Want to deliver highly demanded Safe Mobility Community Activation programs such as Vision Zero Street Labs in the community Then this position might be for you!As a member of the Planning and Community Activation Unit within the Safe Mobility Section this position will play a leading role in delivering and enabling complex community programming for residents throughout Edmonton and act as an ambassador for Safe Mobilitys programs and initiatives.
What will you do
Program and Project Management:
- Working with community and internal City partners to deliver on projects in an integrated and timely manner
- Project tracking planning and keeping the Units leadership apprised of progress
- Considering financial human and material resources in delivering projects
- Applying community insights and project experiences to evolving Community Activation programming
Relationship and Issues Management:
- Building and maintaining effective and trusting community relationships including with residents schools and not-for-profit organizations
- Being the primary point of contact for the Safe Mobility section in communities that the Community Activator is involved in providing guidance and support to various stakeholders on their street safety concerns
Community and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Leading and supporting public engagement activities to understand a communitys lived experiences and traffic safety concerns
- Gathering and translating community feedback to improve projects and evolve programming
- Responding to public inquiries with a service and solutions-based approach
- Conducting site deliveries of materials to residents and community stakeholders. Managing and monitoring project-related issues within the community and ensuring leadership is informed

- Completion of a University Degree or equivalent in Communications Public Relations Community Development Recreation Administration Business Administration Education Public Administration or a related degree
- Five (5) years experience in the field of community recreation which includes demonstrated competency in program development organization development and provision of information/referral
Skills required for success:
- Demonstrated experience in project management and planning to manage multiple projects/processes concurrently and proactively
- Demonstrated experience in community development engagement and facilitation with both internal and external stakeholders including engaging in conflict resolution
- Demonstrated experience in leading others without authority
- Demonstrated experience working with and advising senior leaders including a significant level of political acumen and ability to navigate the varying levels of bureaucracy
- Demonstrated ability to express ideas effectively both orally and in writing for the public
- Ability to effectively gather synthesize integrate and interpret multi-faceted information from a wide range of sources and perspectives
- Ability to build effective working relationships internally and externally
- Ability to understand and share a broader vision (i.e. links to corporate/branch strategic goals strategic plans and political requirements)
- Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written forms to various audiences including the public
- Knowledge of community and organizational development strategies and approaches
- Knowledge of program development delivery and event management
- Knowledge of applicable legislation and bylaws
- Knowledge and understanding of media relations

Conditions of Employment
- Compliance with the City of Edmontons safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
- Hire is dependent on a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
- Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Overtime work may be required during peak operational periods
Salary Range: $43.098 - $54.113 (Hourly)
Salary ranges are in the process of being updated in accordance with the recently ratified collective agreement between the City and CSU 52 and will be forthcoming shortly.
