This position is responsible for supervising and investigating adult criminal offenders who have been determined to need specialized intensive supervision or require special investigative efforts and are on or seeking release to probation parole work releases a community residential center or grant of pardon. Public safety is the utmost concern in the execution of all duties.





AN IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSESS THE FOLLOWING COMPETENCIES:

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience as a probation or parole officer or in counseling psychology social work education criminal justice or administrative services plus one of the following:

1. Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement
2. Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply)
3. Six years of full-time experience in any field
4. A bachelors degree

OR

One year of experience as a probation or parole officer or in counseling psychology social work education criminal justice or administrative services plus a masters degree in counseling psychology social work education business administration public administration or a criminal justice field.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Possession of a current Louisiana drivers license.

This position requires the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.

Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

Job Duties and Other Information

EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.Conducts investigations of persons who represent a high degree of concern for public safety and welfare of the community including offenders with a verified history of violent behavior or who represent the greatest degree of danger to the community as well as providing intensive supervision to high profile cases such as those involving sex offenders organized gang members contagious offenders (e. g. HIV and Hepatitis B).

Ensures sex offender compliance with sex offender laws and requirements. Administer drug tests by obtaining urine samples and evaluating results. Coordinates and supervises community service work performed by parolees.

May exercise functional supervision over Probation and Parole Officers 1 2 and 3Adult as deemed necessary (e.g. in conducting probation and parole preliminary (violation) hearings; in certain field situations such as arrest and transportation of certain offenders and in certain crisis intervention situations that have been determined to possess a high degree of potential danger; by planning and monitoring field training experiences including orientation and introduction to community resources law enforcement and other governmental agencies in the community etc.)

Serves as leader over a unit of Probation and Parole Officers 1 2 and 3--Adult in absence of the Probation and Parole SupervisorAdult as delegated by the Probation and Parole District Manager-Adult.

Works cases in the sheriffs maintenance programs work release programs and community residential programs (half-way houses).

Conducts support activities for the departments Intensive Motivational Program Alternative Correctional Treatment (IMPACT).

Conduct all activities in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards which set specific time constraints requirements and regimen for all major activities.

Assist in conducting jail operation audits on facilities housing DPSC inmates. Conduct disciplinary hearings for adult inmates in CRCs.

Make decisions regarding the application of the Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) defensive tactics system to include impact weapons.

Perform contract compliance audits for Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRC).

Assist the Probation and Parole Program Manager--Adult in coordinating instructors for P.O.S.T academy classes plus in-service training.

Schedules and conducts pre-academy firearms requirements. Conduct firearm and defensive tactics in the P.O.S.T academy and in-service training classes.

Coordinates and evaluates tactical training and works with outside agencies for instructors and training facilities.

Provides a broad range of programmatic support for the Probation and Parole Program ManagerAdult or Probation and Parole District Manager-Adult.

Assist in developing program objectives.

Plans implements and evaluates strategies to meet program goals.

Assists in assessing the statewide program impact and provides recommendations regarding proposed policy.

Provide technical assistance to private providers who operate contracted programs.



Work with: Probation and Parole Officer 1 2 3 P&P Supervisors P&P Program Managers Administrative Program Managers.




THIS POSITION WILL BE FILLED BY PROMOTION

OF A PERMANENT CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE OF

LA DPS&C CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)



This position may be filled as:

  • DETAIL:The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.


This position has a Special Entrance Rate of $27.79 per hour.
