JOB TITLE: Automotive Technology Shop Assistant Sno-Isle Career Center
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Professional Technical Paraeducator MESP
REPORTS TO: Director Sno-Isle Technical Skills Center
JOB SUMMARY:
Assists in the management of Automotive Technology Shop activities under the guidance of the program instructor. Supervises students for safety and provides instructional support maintains shop organization and tidiness maintains inventory orders parts facilitates the pickup of used oil and other hazardous waste materials inspects and maintains shop equipment performs pickup and delivery of parts and donations and monitors skill development of students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist instructor with the daily supervision of students for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Assist instructor with monitoring and managing student behavior and progress; share observations with instructor and other professional staff as required.
- Assist instructor with implementation of various strategies to address diverse student needs and support individual educational growth and achievement goals.
- Provide clerical and general classroom assistance for staff which may include collection and data entry of information correspondence copying filing and preparation of classroom materials.
- Facilitate completion of student projects/activities.
- Assist students with various shop needs (tools equipment vehicle keys moving vehicles etc.). Act as spotter for students pulling in vehicles.
- Assist with appropriate and specific competency checkoffs as directed by instructor.
- Assist in managing second year students as needed and while instructor focuses on the first-year students at the start of the school year.
- Maintain tools and equipment including checking tools in and out. Assist in the management and organization of the tool room.
- Perform Inventory of program resources/equipment; assist in ordering and managing shop resources and consumables as needed.
- Maintain overall shop organization.
- Model and enforce shop safety and PPE use; perform SDS management and maintenance.
- Assist in managing waste oil and oil spills; facilitate shop cleanup and schedule waste pickup as needed.
- Foster a welcoming and safe environment for students.
- Administer first aid and medical assistance as needed.
- Perform scheduled equipment software updates and facilitate completion of maintenance schedule for specialty equipment including vehicle lift bi-annual inspection.
- Participate in meetings and training for the purpose of sharing information improving the employee skills and knowledge implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
- Comply with District Policies.
- Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

- Knowledge of automotive-related tools and specialized equipment.
- Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations regarding disposal of used automotive fluids and other hazardous waste produced by a shop.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform the physical job requirements of an automotive shop setting with or without reasonable accommodation including utilizing adequate physical strength for lifting pushing vehicles pulling/pushing tools applying torque and operation of multiple types of specialty equipment.
- Ability to work at heights up to 16 feet using a ladder and/or scissor lift to maintain overhead water/air/light reels access water/compressed air valves and vehicle lift mechanisms.
- Ability to work under vehicles (supported by jack stands or vehicle lifts).
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits) or have obtained an associates (or higher) degree or have successfully passed the Para Pro Assessment developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).
- Completion of assigned S/P2 automotive safety training within 30 days of hire.
- Possession of a current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness and ability to achieve within 30 days of hire.
- Possession of a current forklift certification or willingness and ability to achieve after hire.
- Valid Washington Drivers License with acceptable driving record.
- OSHA card/certificate preferred.
Experience:
- Experience working in an automotive/diesel repair facility.
- Experience working with high school aged students preferred.
- Experience training others preferred.
