Job Description

Position TitleSustainability Mentor - AmeriCorps Lead (Methow Valley)About the UniversityWestern Washington University with over 16000 students in seven colleges and the graduate school is nationally recognized for its educational programs students and faculty. Throughout the Sustainability Pathways programs there is emphasis on peer-to-peer learning project and community-based learning and development of the cohort learning community. To support cohort growth development and engagement a Sustainability Mentor position is being hired to support student and cohort health program operations and enhance career preparedness.

This position will serve an essential community engagement and communications role in sharing Sustainability Pathways stories with the public program partners and local youth by developing and providing program media that communicates the goals of the programs identifies opportunities to participate and gathers input on program development.

This position will also serve an essential community engagement role in coordinating weekly sustainability service field trips highlighting areas such as food systems ecological restoration zero waste or fire adaptation with community partners.

This position will coordinate key operational aspects of the program including scheduling events housing transportation and equipment.

The StateHR classification for this position is Program Coordinator.

Required Qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills (oral written facilitation & presentation)
  • Strong interest in developing and applying leadership skills while supporting leadership development in other students
  • Highly organized and prepared to manage dynamic responsibilities
  • Strong situational awareness and ability to support organizational partnerships
  • Growth mindset and readiness to work independently at times and collaboratively as a team as well
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completed a summer practicum for the Climate Leadership Certificate or Sustainability Pathways programs
  • Be a WWU alumnu or local resident with exceptional place-based and sustainability education experience
  • Masters Degree
