As part of our Water Resources Division youll help lead the design and delivery of stormwater and flood mitigation solutions that safeguard the built and natural environment. We work on impactful projects for DOTs municipalities and regional infrastructure leadersprojects that directly reduce flood risk improve water quality and promote sustainable growth.
What Youll Be Doing
As a Stormwater Project Engineer I youll serve as both a technical leader and hands-on contributor across a wide range of hydrologic hydraulic and drainage infrastructure projects. Youll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to bring cutting-edge water management solutions to life.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the charge on flood mitigation: Conduct detailed hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling of floodplains floodways bridges culverts and open channels using HEC-RAS SWMM and other industry tools.
Engineer smart stormwater systems: Design and analyze municipal and roadway drainage systems detention and retention basins storm sewer networks green infrastructure and water quality BMPs.
Solve complex water challenges: Identify causes of localized flooding or erosion evaluate alternatives and develop technically sound economically viable design solutions.
Own the design process: Oversee the preparation of engineering calculations drainage reports plan sheets cross sections quantities specifications cost estimates and erosion/sediment control details.
Guide the next generation: Mentor junior engineers and CAD designers review their work and help grow technical capabilities across the team.
Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with roadway structural and municipal engineering teams to coordinate interdisciplinary designs on public infrastructure projects.
Support client relationships: Attend meetings present findings and maintain positive working relationships with public agencies municipalities and regulatory authorities.
Drive quality and compliance: Ensure all design efforts meet local state and federal standards including IDOT INDOT and FEMA requirements.
Who Were Looking For
Were seeking someone whos passionate about protecting communities from water-related riskssomeone who can lead with both technical depth and project ownership.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering (or closely related discipline) from an ABET-accredited program
812 years of professional experience in stormwater water resources or drainage design
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois and/or Indiana
Proficient in HEC-RAS and SWMM modeling software
MicroStation experience required; AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency a strong plus
Experience designing municipal or highway drainage systems
Familiarity with state DOT drainage design standards (IDOT INDOT etc.)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Valid drivers license and ability to travel to job sites and client meetings
Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) designation is a plus
