Job Description

Reports To: Director of Elementary Curriculum & Instruction

Duty Days:197

Wage/Hour Status:Exempt

Pay Grade: I01

Funding Source: GOF

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred

Ability to pass the TEA HB3 Reading Academy Cohort Leader Screen required

Minimum three years of experience in teaching K-3

Ability to evaluate instruction and instructional artifacts and provide feedback to teachers

Ability to lead professional development in reading

Mentor classroom teachers in the implementation of literacy instruction

Strong understanding of the reading process particularly early reading

Demonstrate instructional leadership

Technology skills to support instructional programs

Strong organizational skills

Training in coaching techniques

Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills

Primary Purpose:

The Reading Academy Cohort Leader will facilitate groups of teachers and leaders in the Katy ISD Reading Academies as required by HB3 and will work the Elementary Curriculum & Instruction team to design develop and support the Districts vision for literacy initiatives.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Stay abreast of program requirements and best practices in literacy.
  2. Lead professional development at the campus and district levels.
  3. Model instructional strategies and lessons as appropriate.
  4. Attend content and/or program meetings and staff development as required.
  5. Collaborate with Elementary Curriculum & Instruction Coordinators and the Reading Academy Specialist on a frequent basis.
  6. Conduct program evaluation as determined by TEA.
  7. Communicate and respond to TEA information requests.
  8. Organize and distribute any materials to cohorts.
  9. Evaluate artifacts submitted by participants using the TEA rubrics.
  10. Provide feedback on artifacts submitted by participants.
  11. Monitor the progress of participants in cohorts.
  12. Provide coordinate and communicate differentiated instruction for participants who do not successfully complete training modules.
  13. Manage multiple cohorts of participants.
  14. Provide coaching to participants.
  15. Utilize time wisely for the effective management of job responsibilities
  16. Coordinate technical assistance for participants.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

Personal computer printer copier and document camera

Working Conditions:

Work with frequent interruptions; in district travel; maintain emotional control under stress; moderate lifting; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; some out of district travel required.
