About the Role

To deliver a high quality research experience to participants enrolled in clinical trials at SVHM. To conduct clinical trials within the department in a professional manner and to deliver care which is within your scope of practice and meets the standards of nursing practice and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)research. As a clinical trials research nurse you will collaborate with all members of the research team including pharmacy Ethics/Governanceand other departments within SVHM if applicable. You will also collaborate with the pharmaceutical company sponsoring a particular trial and the Clinical Research Organisation (CRO) involved in the trial if applicable.

  • There are four key areasrequired for the excellent conduct of clinical trials. These involve expertise in the clinical care of trial participants attending to the administrative aspects of trial conduct trial participant education communication and retention and the strict ethical conduct of a trial.
  • Provide Diabetes Education according to Australian Diabetes educators code of conduct and scope of practice as directed by principal investigator for St Vincents Hospital patients
  • Assess patients in relation to inclusion and exclusion criteria of the protocol for recruitment and ongoing commitment to the study
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writingwith all members of the research team both internal and external.
  • Explain key componentsof the protocol to participants in lay language including drug action and anticipated side effects. Perform visit activities as per trial protocol


Classifications for this position will be ZJ4 ($113646 per annum pro rata) or YU13 ($110614.40 per annum pro rata) dependent on qualification.

Your Contribution

  • Undergraduate degree in general nursing
  • Current practicing certificate
  • Current registration with the APHRA Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Experience with diabetes research trials
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills. Particularly the ability to respond professionally and appropriately as a representative of St. Vincents
  • The ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • The ability to work independently and prioritise tasks and manage timelines
  • Experience working as a Clinical Trial Coordinator (Desirable)
  • Post Graduate qualifications in Clinical research
  • Post Graduate qualification in Diabetes Education
  • Current National criminal history check or willing to obtain

About Endocrinology & Diabetes
The Endocrinology and Diabetes Research team forms part of the broader Endocrine & Diabetes Unit. The office is located on 4th Floor Daly Wing. It is Co-located with Diabetes Education and Endocrine Testing. We work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
