Position Description


The Harris County Fire Marshals Office is seeking a detail-oriented and resourceful Quartermaster Specialist to support operational readiness through effective inventory management procurement coordination and logistical oversight. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that departmental equipment supplies and resources are properly maintained tracked and available to support agency-wide functions and emergency response activities.

The Quartermaster Specialist serves within the Operations and Technical Services Bureau and works closely with internal departments external vendors and operational staff. This coordination is essential to uphold the efficiency safety and preparedness of the Fire Marshals Office through accurate recordkeeping resource planning and logistical support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Functional Support:
    • Maintains inventories and cleanliness within the Quarter Master.
    • Assist with procurement service and maintenance of departmental/ county owned equipment and resources.
    • Assists with various project/program plans and goals and performs other duties as directed by HCFMO management including assisting in additional operational support functions.
    • Communicates and collaborates with internal/external staff and other entities as needed to coordinate information and resources for department projects programs or services.
  • Project Management:
    • Assists with various project/program plans and goals and performs other duties as directed by HCFMO management including assisting in additional operational support functions.
  • Customer Service:
    • Communicates and collaborates with internal/external staff and other entities as needed to coordinate information and resources for department projects programs or services.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Inputs processes and compiles data/records using Operative IQ and other automated systems in order to track and maintain accurate inventories of departmental/ county owned equipment supplies and other resources.
    • Maintains up to date records and information related to the service and maintenance of departmental/county owned equipment and supplies.
  • Training and Development:
    • Participate in training programs to enhance skills and maintain and/or pursue certifications in specific areas such as project management quality assurance or technical specialties.
  • Other Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Perform as a member of an Incident Management Team during emergency or disaster situations.
    • Maintain situational awareness of all HCFMO activities.
    • Serve on committees boards or other teams as assigned by the Fire Marshal or designee.
    • Perform assigned tasks safely and report initial accidents injuries or health exposures in accordance with accepted safety practices and HCFMO policy.

  • Bachelors degree with an emphasis in a relevant field such as business administration logistics public administration or supply chain management and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related area. Must be eligible for certification in a relevant division within the organization.
