Job Description

JOB GOAL:
The Teacher Newcomer Program duties will consist of providing instruction for
newcomer students who are within one to three years of being educated in US schools.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Nine andthree-quarter (9.75) Month- TeacherContract Position (200 days) plus Benefit PackageNOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based upon education and experience. This position is reviewed annually and is contingent upon continued funding FLSA:EXEMPT

TEACHER SALARY SCHEDULE

Work Days/Work Hours: 5 days/7.5 hours per day

Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be completed by the employee occupying this position. Employees assignment is subject to the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools.

  1. Will provide instruction/interventions for K-5 grade students who are identified asMultilingual Learner (MLLs) and are developing proficiency in the target language (English) and/or working below grade level in any of the core subject areas.
  2. Collaborate with grade level teachers in planning daily lessons analyzing data and providing appropriate interventions/modifications.
  3. Monitor student progress over time.
  4. Serve on the LPAC: Maintaindocumentation for students identified as LMS to meet compliance requirements for Titles III and VI.
  5. Observe students in their classrooms to ensure transfer and success of intervention.
  6. Provide small group instruction for students in grades K-5.
  7. Communicates students progress to parents and teachers as well as instructional leaders in the school.
  8. Participates in creating an environment conducive to the learning and growth of all children.
  9. Enters data online and prepares reports for school and district as needed.
  10. Attends professional development as necessary to enhance professional knowledge
  11. Administers Various assessments as well as but not limited toELPA 21 and Diagnostic Tests to children.
  12. Collaborate to provide to providesupportforclassroom teachers on effective teaching strategies for Multilingual Learners.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge skills and/or abilities. To perform this job successfully the incumbent will possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty successfully. QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Arkansas teaching certificate in Elementary Education PR-4. Minimum of a
  2. Bachelors degree.
  3. ESL endorsement and additional work with SIOP I and SIOP II training is desired.
  4. Three or more years of recent classroom experience at the K-5level primary years preferred
  5. Preference given to work with Multilingual learners.
  6. Bilingual Proficient in speaking English as well as Spanish or willing to learn.
  7. Expertise and experience related to literacy and second language acquisition is required.
  8. Mastery of effective instructional techniques and strategies that lead to improved student achievement in all content areas.
  9. Knowledge of implementation of bestMLL practices as well as integrating in a mainstream classroom.
  10. Knowledge of interventions appropriate forMultilingual learners and the MTSS Process.
  11. Evidence of strong organizational skills.
  12. Evidence of expert use of technology both at the instructional level and usage level.
  13. Strong interpersonal skills.
  14. Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.
  15. Strong work ethic and leadership abilities.
  16. Conviction that all children can and will learn in the Little Rock School District.

Mental Functions Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit stand walk go up and down stairs operate foot and hand controls use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound near and far vision depth perception handling and working with educational materials and/or objects and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time and to be physically present and at assigned work with only infrequent unexcused absences during the contract year. Additional technical skills knowledge and abilities may be recommended by the immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
