SUMMARY
The School Nurseadvancesthe health wellness and safety of students through: health education direct service to students delivery ofstaff and student trainings and system wide collaboration. The School Nurse also ensures the delivery of appropriate health care services according to the school health care plan and assists in the development and evaluation of IEP and 504 plans of students with health needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelorof Science in Nursing.
- Washington State Educational Staff Associates School Nurse Certificate.
- Current Washington State Registered Nurse License.
- Experience working with children and families in preventive nursing.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with students staff administrators and families.
- Demonstrate mature behavior and ability to use sound judgment in working with students parents staff and the community.
- Ability to communicate in a positive and professional manner through positive interactions with staff and students in the West Valley community.
- Value and respect for all students staff and families including typically underserved students.
- Experience effectively collaborating with colleagues to fulfill common departmental/program goals and objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate and conduct school health services including mandated screenings immunization programs and the provision of healthcare in multiple school settings.
- Assess student health needs recommend appropriate action and monitor communicable diseases and other illnesses.
- Identify and plan for the health needs of medically fragile students and those with chronic health concerns.
- Consult with students parents and staff regarding health needs and services ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers students and families to assess the needs of students with long-term illness or injury including home visits when necessary.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams at the building level to advise on modifying educational programs to meet the health needs of individual students.
- Maintain standard health room procedures including medication administration first aid illness procedures BECCA compliance and attendance management in cooperation with Health Services Assistants office staff and the Principal.
- Maintain current and accurate cumulative health care records and oversee the accurate maintenance of student health and immunization records.
- Identify students in need of medical and dental care and facilitate referrals for services as needed.
- Act as a liaison between physicians school personnel parents and students regarding health problems ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive school health program in collaboration with school administration and staff.
- Assist students families and the school community in achieving optimal levels of wellness through appropriately designed and delivered health education.
- Serve as a resource to staff students and parents concerning health issues providing guidance and support.
- Maintain confidentiality within legal regulatory and ethical parameters of Health and Education ensuring privacy and professionalism.
- Complete written reports as required by state or local agencies adhering to reporting guidelines and standards.
- Consult and assist classroom staff with health curriculum such as HIV/AIDS BAT and Family Life providing expertise and guidance.
- Advise on exclusion and readmission of students in compliance with board policy and local health district regulations on infections and contagious diseases.
- Engage in continuing professional education through attending classes conferences and staying informed about current legislation pertaining to school nurses.
- Perform other related duties as assigned demonstrating flexibility and dedication to the well-being of students.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and work yearare determined by thenegotiated agreement and the needs of the District.
Verification of identity and United States work authorizationmust becompleted before employment commences. The successful candidate for thispositionmust complete a fingerprinted background check with the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Employment is contingent upon clearance of the background check.
