Position Summary:
The Pharmacist at Athena Medtech is responsible for the precise preparation and dispensing of medications ensuring the highest standards of safety and efficacy in pharmaceutical care. This role demands meticulous attention to detail in reviewing and interpreting prescriptions comprehensive understanding of drug interactions and a proactive approach to patient and healthcare provider education. The Pharmacist acts as a vital resource collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to optimize medication therapies and contribute significantly to improved patient health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Medication Dispensing & Verification:
- Rigorously review and interpret physician prescriptions for accuracy appropriate dosage potential drug interactions contraindications and allergies.
- Precisely prepare compound (as necessary) and dispense prescription medications to patients ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and quality standards.
- Patient Counseling & Education:
- Provide comprehensive and empathetic counseling to patients on the proper use safe storage potential side effects and expected benefits of their prescribed medications.
- Answer patient inquiries clearly and thoroughly addressing concerns and promoting medication adherence.
- Medication Management & Monitoring:
- Proactively monitor patient medication therapies for effectiveness potential adverse drug reactions and opportunities for optimization.
- Identify and resolve drug-related problems collaborating with prescribers to adjust therapies as needed.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
- Collaborate effectively with physicians nurses advanced practice providers and other healthcare professionals to develop and optimize patient-specific medication regimens and ensure seamless coordinated care.
- Inventory & Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of medications dispensed controlled substances and inventory levels in accordance with departmental policies and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure strict compliance with all applicable federal state and local legal statutes regulatory guidelines (e.g. FDA DEA State Boards of Pharmacy) and internal safety protocols.
- Supervision & Training:
- Supervise and provide guidance to pharmacy technicians and support staff ensuring their adherence to professional standards and departmental procedures.
- Participate in the training and mentorship of new pharmacy personnel.
- Professional Development:
- Continuously stay updated on new medications emerging treatments pharmaceutical best practices and advancements in drug information through ongoing professional development and continuing education.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited institution is required.
- Licensure:
- Current and valid Pharmacist license in the state of Arizona (AZ) is required.
- Experience:
- Previous experience in a retail hospital or clinical pharmacy setting is preferred.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a strong commitment to customer service and patient education.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills for managing complex medication profiles and inventory.
- Proficiency with pharmacy software systems automation and other relevant technologies.
- Ability to work independently and as an integral part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Working Conditions:
- May require prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Flexibility for working various shifts including evenings weekends and holidays may be required based on departmental needs.
