Job Description
Job Title: TMC Tech I Senior Level Operator
Location: Nashville TN
Job Summary:
We are seeking a senior-level Traffic Management Center (TMC) Technician I to monitor Tennessee roadways and facilitate safe and efficient traffic flow. This position will operate in a control room environment using advanced Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to detect verify and manage traffic incidents and congestion. The selected candidate must be capable of working with minimal supervision and may lead shift operations train junior staff and support critical traffic management operations.
Key Responsibilities:

Serve as a senior operator performing traffic management duties with limited supervision

Operate computer-based ITS systems to monitor traffic and manage incidents

Monitor detection systems CCTV DMS and 511 systems to ensure accuracy of messages and real-time information

Dispatch Service Patrols and coordinate with Tennessee Highway Patrol local law enforcement fire rescue and other partners for incident management

Accurately enter and update incident information using traffic operations software

Lead shift activities as needed to maintain smooth control room operations

Train and provide guidance to new and junior TMC operators

Maintain familiarity with regional roadway layouts and purpose/location of all traffic devices

Monitor and validate dynamic message signs (DMS) and 511 messaging for accuracy

Follow Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG) for detecting dispatching documenting and resolving traffic incidents

Communicate effectively with other TDOT regions and traffic management centers as needed for regional coordination

Perform additional duties as assigned to support the control room mission
Qualifications & Skills:
-
Experience in traffic management emergency dispatch control room operations or similar environments

Strong knowledge of ITS systems and traffic monitoring equipment (CCTV DMS detectors etc.)

Ability to lead a shift and train junior staff

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and traffic management software systems

Strong organizational skills attention to detail and situational awareness
-
Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage real-time events efficiently
-
Knowledge of Tennessee roadways is a plus
