Surgery Scheduler - St. Marys Hospital
Responsible for coordinating all activities related to surgical procedures in the Operating Room. Works closely with OR Supervisor and Nurse Manager to ensure accurate posting of all surgical cases. Responsible for communicating to anesthesia surgeons and staff of any schedule changes. This position services all age populations.
Essential Job Functions

- Posts all add-on surgical cases. Assists the charge nurse(s) in running of the OR schedule with administrative duties including but not limited to copying filing and correspondences.
- Collaborates with specialty coordinators and surgeon s offices on schedule changes.
- Communicates by appropriate means (faxing or electronically) with associated departments as necessary such as Patient Access and Pre-admission Testing
- Culture of Safety: Protects patient information based on hospital policy and government HIPAA regulations to ensure information is kept confidential.
- Participates in unit and hospital efforts to reduce adverse employee or patient care events.
- Communication : Demonstrates effective communication feedback and conflict resolution skills in all interpersonal interactions .
- Works effectively and constructively with co-workers and physicians. Prepares various communication tools appropriate for the unit and at the discretion of the managers including call sheets phone trees etc.
- Posts Add-on surgical cases into the electronic medical record system.
- Excellence : Supports efforts to exceed targets for employee engagement recruitment and retention for nursing units.
- Maintains inventory of office supply .
- Innovation : Participates in relevant quality improvement activities .
- Professionalism: Practices appropriate behavior as outlined in the employee code of conduct policy toward members of the hospital and medical staff patients or their families.

Demonstrates strong organizational skills fostering a calm/comfortable environment for staff physicians patients and families adding to a positive surgical experience:
- Teamwork: Acts in a professional respectful manner with patients physicians and other hospital personnel to enhance a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect and trust among members of the patient care team.
- Completes assembly of documentation packets and labels with patient information.
- Evenings: Prepares preference and pick list for the next day surgery. Labels case carts for specific cases.
- Other Job Functions: Serves as liaison between the OR the public and the physician offices. Other assigned duties as necessary.
Employment Qualifications
Required Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Other Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Work requires the ability to type using correct spelling and punctuation. This knowledge is normally acquired through a high school education with coursework in typing. Medical terminology may be acquired in a three to six month post high school program and/or one to two years combined training and work experience in the medical field.
- Work requires the ability to communicate effectively with the public professional staff and surgeons while multi-tasking efficiently and effectively within a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to properly utilize carious computer application including but not limited to MS Outlook Microsoft Office Connect Care/OpTime and Par-X.
