Oversee the daily operation of the Virology/Molecular Diagnostic section of the MSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and supervise the technologists working there. Coordinate the purchase maintenance and repair of equipment. Review and document quality control data and monitor test completion. Consult with clients to resolve problems and provide information. Manage administrative duties for the laboratory and coordinate process improvement and problem solving for the laboratory. Perform assays procedures and data entry for diagnostic purposes. Assist in the research and development of specialized diagnostic tests. Process and test diagnostic samples for surveillance projects.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in a related biological science field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in the technical aspects of the work to be performed experience implementing procedures and programs and in high-volume diagnostic testing; experience in laboratory supervision; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Outstanding organizational skills; excellent leadership and communication skills; experience in laboratory management; experience using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and/or Microsoft Office programs; experience in a high-volume diagnostic laboratory using molecular and serological methodologies.
