DelDOT is Now Offering Sign-on Bonuses for Engineers!

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) recognizes its Engineers are a highly valued resource and play a critical role in ensuring the States infrastructure is safe reliable dependable and sustainable. For that reason we are now providing monetary recruitment incentives to new DelDOT Engineers in accordance to our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.

The program provides recruitment incentives as follows:

Sign-On Bonus Incentives are based on the position classification:

  • $4000 Engineer I
  • $5000 Engineer II
  • $6000 Engineer III
  • $7000 Engineer IV

Incentives are paid three months from the initial date of employment. New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DelDOT in the Engineer I-IV series. Must be a new hire to the State of Delaware or new to the Engineer classification series within the State of Delaware

NOTE: You will receive more information during the hiring process. This program is administered by the Department of Transportations Human Resources Employment Services section. The program may be terminated by the Department of Transportation at any time with or without notice.

Summary Statement


The mission of Maintenance & Operations is to provide excellence in transportation by keeping the states road transportation network in a state of good repair through the careful and consistent application of personnel equipment and financial resources.

This engineering position will work under the direct supervision of a licensed engineer and will perform multiple maintenance design support activities to help implement maintenance projects within North District. Responsibilities include preparation of maintenance contracts with CADD and other software assist in the execution and management of the maintenance contracts cost estimating and other design activities and coordination with other DelDOT support sections and State agencies.

Essential Functions

  • Drafts develops and modifies engineering designs plans and specifications.
  • Reviews permit applications blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Applies the principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.
  • Plans and conducts field studies surveys research and development projects inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.
  • Tests or evaluates materials equipment systems and facilities.
  • Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
  • Reviews analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance.
  • Develops cost estimates for project time and materials.
  • Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.

Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher (or have an anticipated graduation date within 12 months) in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below OR official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below.


    JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineer II (Department of Transportation Only)
    Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

    1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher (or have an anticipated graduation date within 12 months) in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below OR official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below.

        1. Possession of a valid Delaware Professional Engineering License OR Possession of a valid Professional Engineering license issued by a proper authority of a state territory or possession of the United States the District of Columbia or a province or territory of Canada.

        2. At least five years experience in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below.
