Job Duties:
Incumbents of this position perform inspections collect environmental samples including ambient water sites conduct environmental monitoring and respond to complaints and environmental incidents in the surrounding parishes in which the regional office service. Incumbents assist with preparation and participate in the inspections of major and minor facilities and/or sources within an assigned region for one or more of the following media: air water hazardous and solid waste waste tire generators and processors asbestos and lead. Incumbents will perform environmental monitoring to collect ambient air and water data. Incumbents will participate in special inspections or sampling projects on a statewide basis. Incumbents receive training appropriate to their positions. Lower level staff obtain necessary experience and skills to perform inspections and collect environmental data related to compliance issues within a region with guidance from senior Environmental Scientists (mentors) Supervisors and ES Staff.
Position-Specific Details:
This announcement will be used to fill multiple Environmental Scientist vacancies. These positions are located in the Bayou Lafourche Regional Office of the Surveillance Division within the Office of Environmental Compliance. All vacancies are domiciled in Lafourche parish.
This position may be filled as either a probational appointment job appointment (a temporary appointment not to exceed four years) or promotions of permanent classified employees. If the positions are filled as job appointments they could be converted to probational appointments should funding become available.
As part of a Career Progression Group vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Environmental Scientist 1 2 or 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. The maximum salary for the Environmental Scientist 3 is $84136. Please refer to the Job Specifications tab located at the top of the LA Careers Current Job Opportunities page for specific information on salary ranges minimum qualification requirements and job concepts for each level.
There is a Special Entrance Rate (SER) for this position as follows:
Environmental Scientist 1 - $20.91 per hour or $1672.80 biweekly
Environmental Scientist 2 - $22.38 per hour or $1789.80 biweekly
Environmental Scientist 3 - $25.62 per hour or $2049.20 biweekly
