The City of Victorias Sustainable Mobility Strategy was adopted in 2019 and confirms our mobility values policy positions and key initiatives surrounding mobility. GoVictoria succeeds past transportation plans and introduces a single mobility strategy that reflects the inter-connectedness and inter-dependencies of all mobility networks. This holistic and integrated approach intends to deliver more effective planning and decision making across the transportation system of systems.

Our ideal candidate has a passion for Transportation and a keen interest and aptitude for working with traffic and safety data and is excited to participate in developing new tools for assessing and improving safety in our roadways.

POSITION FUNCTION

As a student hired under the Co-operative Educational Training Program you will be given meaningful and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. In this Co-op position you will assist with supernumerary projects and contribute to the overall goals of the work unit.

KEY DUTIES

Under the direct guidance and observation of the supervisor assist with the on-going enhancement of the Citys operations by utilizing existing tools and software platforms.

Participate in the development and improvement of future-focussed projects that align with the departments strategic goals and objectives by providing supernumerary field or office support.

Conduct and document research analyze and interpret data prepare summary of findings draft reports procedures and/or practices and present to supervisor for feedback and/or next steps.

Assist with identifying and testing new and/or enhanced tools and processes and collaborate to ensure shared learning.

INDEPENDENCE

Work is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.

Problems are referred to supervisor.

Normal. Some heavy lifting required (up to 50 lbs.)

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Organize and prioritize work.

Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.

Understand and carry out job related instructions.

Ability to learn quickly and independently.

Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Working level knowledge of current City word processing spreadsheet and related specialty software including social media tools.

Maintain accurate records with attention to detail.

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education Training and Occupational Certification:

High School.

Enrolled in a recognized Co-operative Education Program at a Canadian Post-Secondary Institution.

Currently attending full-time education and returning to full-time studies in the subsequent academic year.

In good standing in an Undergraduate Degree Program or Technical School Diploma Program.

Experience:

Not required.
