Job Description

Job Title: Occupational Therapist

Location: International School of Brussels (ISB)

Reports to: Director of Inclusion and Challenge

Position Overview:The International School of Brussels is seeking a skilled and compassionate Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing therapeutic support to students helping them develop essential life skills enhance their independence and achieve their academic and social potential. The OT will collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team including OT colleagues teachers special educators and other therapists to deliver individualized and group therapy sessions tailored to the specific needs of each student.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Evaluation:
    • Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate the physical cognitive and sensory needs of students.
    • Collaborate with teachers parents and the support team to gather information on students development and academic performance.
    • Develop and implement individualized therapy plans based on assessment results goals and the students ILP (Individualized Learning Plan).
  • Therapeutic Intervention:
    • Provide one-on-one and group therapy sessions focused on motor skill development sensory integration coordination skills self-regulation and functional life skills.
    • Assist students in adapting to the school environment including independence with classroom activities developing effective handwriting skills executive functioning mobility support and environmental modifications.
    • Develop strategies and resources for students to improve independence in academic social and daily life activities.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with teachers counselors and other specialists to develop strategies and interventions that support the holistic development of students.
    • Regularly communicate with parents and guardians regarding student progress and the implementation of therapy plans.
    • Participate in team meetings providing input and consultation on student progress and adjustments to therapy goals and interventions.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress therapy sessions and assessments.
    • Regularly report on student outcomes and therapy effectiveness to the lead therapist and other relevant staff.
  • Professional Development:
    • Stay up to date with the latest research techniques and best practices in pediatric school-based occupational therapy.
    • Engage in continuous professional development and attend relevant workshops conferences and training opportunities.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education:
    • Bachelors or Masters degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
    • Licensed or registered Occupational Therapist with the relevant governing body.
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience working as an Occupational Therapist in an educational setting ideally with children and adolescents.
    • Experience working with students with a range of developmental learning and physical challenges.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of therapeutic techniques and interventions for children with diverse needs including sensory integration therapy.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
    • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and the ability to engage with students staff and parents from diverse backgrounds.
    • A patient empathetic and proactive approach to working with students and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in international or bilingual school settings.
  • Knowledge of various therapy tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of primitive reflex integration techniques
  • Familiarity with educational frameworks such as ILP (Individualized Learning Plans) or ILP.
