DESCRIPTION: This part-time position under direct supervision of Sr. Mechanic this position supports department efforts towards providing Town services through repair and maintenance of the Towns fleet and equipment. This includes servicing vehicles and equipment mechanical maintenance and repair work on gasoline diesel small engine repair and other motorized equipment. This position understands public trust and models the highest standards of personal and professional integrity expected of those working in public service. Specific functions comprising the position may vary depending on the priorities and needs of the Town and/or requirements of state law. Employees in this class typically work a twenty-hour work week however schedules may change depending on the needs of the organization.
CLASSIFICATION: Positions in this class are characterized by having abilities to handle a variety of tasks and interactions. An employee successful in this position performs duties efficiently under supervision. Job functions require the ability to think independently use discretion and good judgment apply good customer service skills and to follow and carry out written and verbal directions. This is a part-time FLSA non-exempt part-time at will position. The hourly range for this position is $16.25 - $26.00/hour depending on experience. Highly qualified candidates may start above the minimum. Eligible employees must participate in the Arizona State Retirement (ASRS) which includes a 100% Town match. This position is not eligible for insurance benefits; however part-time employees do enjoy other Town benefits including generous paid time off for vacation holidays and sick leave.
Qualifications :
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Essential functions and duties may be modified at any time at managements discretion. Typical duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Participates in the implementation of goals objectives priorities policies and procedures of the Town of Clarkdale and the Public Works/Utilities Department;
- Assists with the organization and operations of the Public Works/Utilities Department;
- Perform routine maintenance (lube oil filter changes) on vehicles and heavy equipment;
- Diagnoses mechanical difficulties with Town automobiles trucks and equipment;
- Participates in developing and maintaining systems and procedures for maintenance;
- Under direction of Sr Mechanic inspects repairs adjusts overhauls and/or maintains diesel and gasoline powered Town equipment such as autos trucks tractors backhoes mowers weed eaters saws and other standard and specialized equipment;
- Under direction of Sr Mechanic inspects repairs adjusts overhauls and/or maintains components of engines drive lines transmissions brake systems clutches and steering assemblies wheel bearings oil seals shock absorbers emission systems exhaust systems generators distributors lights and switches suspension components and tires;
- Maintains complete records of equipment condition repairs performed and maintenance costs;
- Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance is acceptable. Possession of a High School Diploma or GED is the minimum education is required. A minimum of one (1) year mechanical experience is required and proven experience in the essential functions and duties of the position is preferred. Technical school or Auto Shop experience preferred.
Special Requirements Licenses and Certificates
- Must possess a valid Arizona drivers license (or ability to transfer an out-of-state license to Arizona immediately) and maintain an excellent driving record.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of methods materials tools and equipment used in fleet maintenance and repair;
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to fleet maintenance
- and repair;
- Skilled in the use of tools powered equipment and welders used in the maintenance repair
- and fabrication of automotive truck and construction equipment;
- Ability to identify and solve problems associated with maintenance and repair;
- Ability to understand and practice established and/or recommended safety precautions policies or procedures;
- Ability to anticipate issues and participate in the collaboration of solutions;
- Ability to effectively make use of use basic computer software systems;
- Skilled in use and care of tools equipment and safety devices;
- Ability to effectively work with and around tools power tools and equipment;
- Ability to practice and adhere to safety standards and practices;
- Ability to communicate clearly whether verbally or in writing with individuals from various socioeconomic ethnic and cultural backgrounds;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective positive working relationships;
- Ability to organize and prioritize and to work independently at times under time constraints and deadlines;
- Ability to be flexible in the face of change.
- Ability to provide crewman support.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is regularly performed in both an inside environment and outside weather conditions which can include rain and extreme heat near moving mechanical parts and there is occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and to vibration.
- Work may require travel to manage projects or to attend meetings training events etc.;
- The noise level is varied; it can be usual to that of an inside office environment and outdoor can be potentially loud particularly when equipment is operating;
- The work environment can be near moving mechanical parts and/or in the presence of vibration.
- The employee is often required to walk over uneven flooring or outdoor terrain;
- The employee may be required to work outside normally scheduled hours and/or assigned to report to a specific location for training and/or meeting attendance;
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear; use hands to finger handle feel or operate objects tools or controls and reach with hands and arms;
