Job Description
POSITION:Spanish/ Portuguese TeacherLOCATION:Thompson Middle SchoolREPORTS TO:Building Principal and/or designeeSCHOOL YEAR:2025/2026JOB DESCRIPTION: To motivate each student to develop competencies knowledge and skills in orally comprehending speaking reading and writing Spanish and Portuguese; to interpret to students the culture of the countries where Spanish and Portuguese are spoken; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in Spanish and Portuguese TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:Must hold a Rhode Island Secondary All Grades World Language Certificate Grades PK-12 in Spanish and in the teaching of Spanish & Portuguese and evidence of developing teaching strategies that will address the unique needs of each student;Ability to know and utilize technology in the teaching and learning process;Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work educational experience and the interview completion of the Science of Reading Training within the first year of :Teaches knowledge and skills in Spanish & Portuguese to middle school students utilizing the school departments curricula and other appropriate learning activities;Provides the instruction and a learning environment that enables each student to master appropriate to age grade level and individual capacity;Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district;Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy;Provides learning experiences that develop the basic communication skills utilizing electronic equipment and technology as appropriate;Provides individual or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously;Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions laboratory sessions and field trips;Evaluates each students progress in oral comprehension speaking reading and writing Spanish & Portuguese in relationship to the level being taught;Recommends and requests books instructional aids science equipment and supplies and maintains inventory records as required;Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities;Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day;Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs;Demonstrates an understanding of standards-based education and how it is implemented in the with parents and school counselors on student progress;Performs such other duties as assigned by the principal and/or designee at Rogers High School. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month position; appropriate salary/benefits in accordance with the Teachers Contract. Evaluation in accordance with the process as established by the Rhode Island Department of Education for certified 06/9/2025Applicants are not to approach members of the Newport School Committee.
