The mission of the Department of Decision Sciences is to advance and disseminate knowledge in management information systems manufacturing and supply chain management and quantitative methods. We provide high quality educational programs publish theoretical and applied research and serve university professional and community organizations.

About the PositionThe Decision Sciences Department Manager is directly responsible to the Department Chair for the administration and operations of the department and its programs. The position oversees and coordinates the day-to-day functioning across programs including supporting students and faculty creation of policies and procedures developing and managing of complex budgets coordinating curricular planning course scheduling and faculty contracting. The Department of Decision Sciences includes thirteen tenure-track faculty seven non-tenure track faculty one 50% professional staff member four degree programs one minor program two to five student employees three active student clubs one advisory board one research center and courses serving approximately 175 major/minor students and 800 other students in the College.

This is a public facing position that serves students faculty industry professionals alumni and donors and is responsible for maintaining a welcome office environment for all visitors. This position requires working in person on campus full time when classes are in session. Occasional remote work may be considered only when classes are not in session.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of related full-time administrative and supervisory experience with increasing responsibility
  • Demonstrated strong technical skill in Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis in Excel
  • Demonstrated experience using a variety of complex software programs (examples at WWU include but are not limited to Banner Degree Works Millennium Fast Travel Management System and web development tools)
  • Demonstrated experience learning complex programs with limited training
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines while working independently and under time pressure
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills including experience handling sensitive and confidential matters
  • Demonstrated evidence of strong organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience working with a diverse population
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets
  • Demonstrated ability to manage events
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an environment with many office visitors
  • Demonstrated ability to be a productive and collegial team player

We occasionally ask this position to work after hours (Saturday/Sunday or evenings) to support department campus and college events. We occasionally ask this position to drive (transporting materials to events or students for field trips).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Advanced spreadsheet/database skills
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner 9 or other data warehouse software
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to FERPA guidelines on student privacy
