Job Description

Overview

As a Resource Patient Care Assistant at CHI Saint Joseph Hospital youll have a unique opporutnity in helping our patients feel safer and more comfortable by assisting with their basic daily life activities.

Your success in this role comes from your genuine desire to help patients feel better whether that means giving them fresh bed linens or checking their vitals. Youre diligent about your tasks flexible with sudden changes observant of patients conditions improving or declining and youre eager to learn. We count on our Resource Patient Care Assistants to be flexible where needs arise knowing that youll be gaining a vast range of experience in various clinical units.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Check-in with the outgoing patient care assistant at the beginning of your shift to get a report on your patients.
  • Conduct hourly rounds on approximately eight patients checking vitals maintaining whiteboard information and assisting with care as needed.
  • Assist patients with ambulating as necessary. This may mean helping them reach a recliner in their room walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist released patients in getting safely to their vehicles outside.
  • Assist patients with hygiene needs. This can include a full bed bath an assisted bed bath or retrieving towels and soap for ambulatory patients.
  • Help the bedside nurse as needed such as: holding the patient assiting with wound checks or dressing changes providing the nurse with supplies and cleaning up after.
  • Change bed linens check patients weight other tasks as assigned each day.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides direct patient care as delegated by RN staff
  2. Monitors and records vital signs
  3. Assists in providing personal hygiene and physical care needs
  4. Accurately measures records and reports intake and output
  5. Obtains and records daily weight
  6. Performs blood glucose testing using blood glucose meter
  7. Reports changes in patients status promptly to RN
  8. Performs as patient care companion when needed
  9. Assists in the admission transfer and discharge process
  10. Performs unit housekeeping needs
  11. Acts as a runner/transporter
  12. Checks and documents refrigerator temperatures as delegated reporting variances to appropriate personnel
  13. Updates assigned bed status
  14. Maintains a safe environment by responding to all bed alarms call lights telephones and alerting the correct person.
  15. Keeps patient environment clean performs comfort rounds keeps hallways clear of obstruction no food or drink at the workstation reports safety issues and broken equipment appropriately and adheres to patientsafety precautions
  16. Communicates with patients family physicians and unit personnel and peers in an accurate courteous and professional manner
  17. Other duties as assigned by manager
