Job Description

Restaurant Manager Hawthorn Dining Room & Bar (Contract position)

This is a 6-month contract role through December 31 2025 with the potential to transition into a permanent full-time position.

As Restaurant Manager of Hawthorn Dining room & Bar inside the iconic Fairmont Palliser Hotel you are responsible for working alongside other Managers and the General Manager in the revitalization of this renovated space by curating a superior guest & colleague experience. You will bring experience in effective leadership strategic planning and a thirst for innovation and trend-setting. You are relentless in your pursuit of excellence and long to leave a lasting impression on every guest who visits your restaurant. 
This is a 6-month contract role running through December 31 2025 with the potential to transition into a full-time permanent position.

Reporting to Hawthorn General Manager responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Accountable for managing the day to day operations of Hawthorn with active presence on the restaurant floor leading your team to deliver service excellence
  • Work in supporting the General Manager and Restaurant Chef to execute the smooth and flawless operation of both the Front and Heart of House.
  • Work in supporting the General Manager Restaurant Chef Head Bartender and Mixologists to create and maintain all restaurant menus while in keeping with the overall concept
  • Constantly drive innovation to redefine the Calgary culinary experience by actively promoting Hawthorn within the community
  • Effectively recruit and onboard new colleagues
  • Train and lead the team in all aspects of the department to ensure service standards are followed
  • Promote the growth and development of internal talent
  • Proactively engaging with guests to gather feedback resolve any issues and turn negative experiences into positive outcomes to ensure satisfaction.
  • Observes guest behavior and cues to identify potential concerns before they escalate.
  • Abides by all ProServe regulations to ensure responsible alcohol service and full compliance with Alberta liquor laws.
  • Accountable for driving revenue and profit through the development and implementation of strategies practices and promotions while keeping with the overall concept of the venue
  • Actively assist in managing restaurant social media accounts in partnership with the General Manager Restaurant Chef and Marketing Team
  • Working with the Restaurant Leadership & Marketing Teams manage online reputation by responding to feedback comments and/or reviews in a timely and professional manner addressing any concerns.
  • Assist with management of the departmental budget
  • Maintain the health safety and sanitation of the restaurant
  • Collaborate with other departments to contribute to the overall smooth operation of the hotel
  • Adhering to all Company policies procedures and values

Qualifications :

  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Restaurant Manager in a dynamic high-volume setting
  • Valid ProServe Certification required
  • Previous experience in cocktail curation bar operations and beverage costing would be considered a valuable asset
  • Exceptional communication organizational and leadership skills
  • Genuine passion for the Food & Beverage industry with a commitment to exceeding guest expectations and building the citys most talented restaurant team
  • Proven expertise in menu development strategic offerings impactful marketing initiatives and online reputation management
  • Demonstrated success in driving revenue and profitability without compromising colleague satisfaction or guest experience
  • Deep understanding of current industry trends paired with a highly creative mindsetwe aim to lead not follow
  • Strong interpersonal abilities with a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • High level of integrity and accountability with a dedicated work ethic
  • Collaborative team player focused on building strong internal relationships and team culture
