AIG is currently looking for a Senior Field Engineer to join our Commercial Property division and support the fast growing Pacific book of business. The position will be based at our office in Melbourne and report into the Field Engineering Manager Asia Pacific.

Our Commercial Property Engineers work closely with the Property underwriting team in addition to engaging with our key corporate stakeholders to deliver our risk engineering client service programs.

The role will primarily be responsible for undertaking field surveys of varied commercial property risks including high challenge facilities with complex on-site processes and numerous property hazards and potential loss exposures. The role will cover a multitude of occupancies from retail commercial industrial and manufacturing to infrastructure.

Up to 20% of this role can comprise Account Engineering functions such as supporting underwriters with submissions determining account risk ratings; quality of risk reviews from third party reports; evaluate risk recommendation compliance and risk consulting service needs in line with AIG Guidelines.

This role will work with other Field Engineers and Account Engineers within Australia and will work with international Account Engineers to complete field work as required by the broader Global business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Site visits are documented using company report formats detailing a variety of property risk characteristics presenting recommendations for risk improvement and avoidance detailing and analysing exposures and establishing fire and other natural catastrophe loss estimate scenarios.
  • Site work will require the ability to analyse hazards evaluate fire protection water supplies and conduct hydraulic analyses of sprinkler systems.
  • In addition to planning and executing site visits and technical consulting the position is responsible for initiating effective communication of the results during closing conferences including providing creative solutions to risk improvements.
  • The position will be responsible for fire protection plan review providing effective interface with other supporting Commercial Property organisations and requisite reports.
  • Work closely with Underwriting and Account Engineering to obtain and maintain clients. As a Field Engineer the role will need to notify Account Engineers and Underwriters of major loss drivers at surveyed sites and work with brokers and clients to mitigate such exposures.

Position requirements

This candidate will have the following abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills are a must.
  • Possess more than 5 years of highly protected risk specialized industry and/or boiler and machinery field experience
  • Broad knowledge in all risk property loss control and experienced in performing property field surveys of commercial and light to high-hazard industrial occupancies.
  • Knowledge of Building code Fire Protection systems machinery breakdown equipment risk assessment capabilities and other occupancy specialists skills are desired skill sets but are not required.
  • The position requires the engineer to be highly motivated and work well without close supervision. The individual must be able to make decisions with and without established guidelines and to provide technical support to underwriters & clients.
  • The position requires excellent interpersonal and communications skills (verbal and written) computer skills and a client-focused approach.
  • A Bachelors degree in Engineering is desired
  • Professional Engineer or Certified Fire Protection Specialist Designation is desired but not required.
  • Out of city overnight travel is required (15% to 25%).
