Taproot Community Support Services (formerly WJS Canada) works to improve the lives of persons in their communities through a variety of programs and services.
Orca House provides culturally-based programming support and safe home-based accommodations for youth in the care of Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). The resource is a staffed 24 hour resource providing a long term therapeutic placement for up to 3 children or youth. The resource supports children or youth who have experienced a trauma are addressing adverse childhood experiences and/or overcoming other adversities. The program staff will be networking with and working alongside a team of professionals supporting the youth in many life domains such as education mental health physical health recreation and life skills.
The Live-in Support Worker provide care and support services to children/youth and adults with a variety of specialized/complex needs that may be recovering from adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and overcoming other adversity by providing them trauma informed care within 24 hour staffed resource homes.
In our passion to improve lives and develop life skills the Live-In Worker encourages inclusion and participation through community life skill coaching career development and family supports.
Schedule:
Three (3) permanent full-time positions with a weekly schedule of 48 hours per week working 24hr shifts
Live-In Support - starting at 0800 and finishing at 0800 the following morning
Position 1 Sunday and Monday
Position 2 Wednesday and Thursday
Position 3 Friday and Saturday
Assist Person served with the activities of daily living involving their personal and health care behavioural nutritional recreational social vocational educational cultural and environmental needs as identified in their person-centered plans (PCP) while keeping trauma informed care at the forefront of support.
Work in collaboration with MCFD CLBC VIHA Mental Health Services Community Supports Outreach Teams Harm Reduction Workers Cultural Supports Knowledge Keepers Schools Behavior Consultants stakeholders and partners.
Demonstrate a high degree of tolerance and respect for a supported individuals unique personality and challenges while promoting ones dignity and rights
To support and promote a friendly and effective working relationship with support individual family and team members.
Apply crisis intervention and risk management strategies.
Assists with case management documentation by identifying strengths and potential challenges; contributes to the evaluation of the individuals progress and prepares reports.
Organize household tasks (meal planning food purchasing and preparation house cleaning basic maintenance)
Implement individuals daily schedule including transporting individuals to and from appointments school monitoring progress and supporting at-home learning
Administer medications as per policy
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as required
***Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.
Experience working with youth or adults with complex behaviors
Diploma or Degree in Social Work Child and Youth Work Human Services Education Sociology or Psychology
An equivalent combination of education training and experience may also be considered.
Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License with clean drivers abstract
Reliable safe vehicle with appropriate insurance for transporting individuals
Experience with trauma informed practices
Strong conflict resolution mediation and crisis prevention and intervention techniques.
Current WCB Occupational First Aid Level 1 and CPR certificates required.
Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and/or MANDT are considered an asset.
Successful applicants will be required to participate in MCFD screening and provide three (3) professional references prior to confirmed employment.
