The Audio Visual & IT Support Specialist will be responsible for the full lifecycle support of audio-visual systems event setups IT infrastructure and end-user technology support across campus. This position requires hands-on expertise with the setup and operation of live events including microphones mixers speakers streaming equipment and video systems while also providing comprehensive support for computer hardware software networks and user accounts.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong experience managing live audio and video production streaming technology and integrated AV systems while also serving as a critical member of the IT Helpdesk team to support faculty staff and students in resolving IT-related issues.
Essential Functions:
- Plan coordinate and execute all technical aspects of live events conferences presentations and lectures including setup and operation of speakers microphones audio mixers amplifiers video cameras streaming systems and projection equipment.
- Provide end-to-end support for live video streaming hybrid events webinars and multiplatform broadcasts ensuring high-quality audio and video delivery.
- Setup calibrate and troubleshoot video walls campus televisions digital signage and presentation systems across multiple venues.
- Conduct pre-event site inspections and post-event debriefings to ensure continuous improvement in event execution.
- Collaborate directly with academic departments leadership external vendors and media partners to ensure all audio-visual needs for campus events are fully met.
- Deliver technical training and walkthroughs to end-users on the operation of AV equipment video conferencing systems and integrated classroom technologies.
- Provide Helpdesk support for desktop hardware mobile devices printers and peripheral equipment.
- Support IT operations including user account management (Active Directory) security access controls network connectivity (wired and wireless) and data backup processes.
- Troubleshoot network-related issues including wireless connectivity VPN access DNS DHCP and network cabling problems.
- Deploy configure image and repair computers and related IT hardware according to campus standards.
- Review and report security vulnerabilities related to AV and IT infrastructure to IT leadership.
- Update maintain and monitor system and network documentation inventory and configurations.
- Utilize the universitys ticketing system to track manage and resolve all assigned service requests in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with other IT and Facilities staff on cross-functional projects and technology upgrades.
- Perform other duties as assigned that align with the role and department objectives.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Extensive hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting AV equipment including microphones mixers amplifiers speakers video cameras switchers streaming encoders and projection/display systems.
- Proven knowledge of video streaming platforms (YouTube Live Zoom Teams Live Events or similar technologies).
- Strong understanding of IT Helpdesk operations including diagnosing and resolving hardware software printing and network connectivity issues.
- Working knowledge of networking principles (IP addressing DNS DHCP routing firewalls wireless access points and network cabling standards).
- Experience managing Active Directory user accounts permissions and password resets.
- Strong communication and customer service skills with a focus on professionalism responsiveness and technical leadership.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and adhere to university policies on data privacy and security.
- Excellent analytical organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and work extended hours during major events.
- Self-motivated resourceful adaptable and able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in information technology Audio Visual Technology Computer Science or related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of combined experience in audio-visual event support live production and IT Helpdesk support. 2 Office of Human Resources
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite LinkedIn Learning and familiarity with Jenzabar or similar higher education technology platforms is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with classroom technologies lecture capture systems and video conferencing platforms (Zoom Microsoft Teams Webex etc.).
- Flexibility to work evenings weekends or holidays as needed to support university events and projects.
