Job Description

The Senior Data Scientist will work within the Quantitative Science Pillar within the Stanley Manne Childrens Research Institute to conceive propose perform and evaluate exploratory data analysis and predictive modeling in pediatric biomedical research using machine learning statistical and mathematical analysis incorporating heterogeneous and complex data types. The successful candidate will combine broad technical and analytical skills with a strong track record of working both independently and in multidisciplinary collaborative teams to produce valuable insights from large datasets. A creative and flexible approach to problem-solving should be combined with a disciplined approach to maintaining the highest standards of data validation and governance with faithful application of development best practices.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop computational algorithms and experiments for test and evaluation; interpret data to evaluate algorithm performance in the context of stringent criteria for reproducibility and statistical significance.
  • Communicate and collaborate with a varied audience of clinicians scientists analysts and programmers on research methods implementation and results.
  • Design and develop static dynamic and interactive visualizations of complex data for data exploration analysis and deployment for clinical analytics and decision support.
  • Mentor junior staff student workers and research trainees (such as clinical/post-doctoral fellows).
  • Manage large complex projects and take responsibility for major components of larger research initiatives; assign work to junior staff identifying tracking and reporting on tasks and deliverables against project timelines.
  • Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients families co-workers and others.

Knowledge Skills Abilities

  • PhD required in Analytics Data Science Statistics Mathematics Computer Science or a related field.
  • Alternately equivalent experience in data analysis and predictive modeling will be considered in lieu of relevant degree.
  • Greater than 7 years of experience with progressively more complex data science applied statistics machine learning or mathematical modeling projects.
  • Expertise and demonstrated ability at acquiring new technical/analytic skills and domain knowledge formulating analysis plans and selecting appropriate methods to support successful contribution to research and development projects is required.
  • Expertise using existing machine learning and advanced analytic tools (such as TensorFlow Keras or R) as well as general purpose programming languages (such as Matlab Python or Java) in either applied academic or professional projects is required.
  • Experience with statistical models probabilistic graphical models time series predictive models and/or Markov models preferred.
  • Experience creating informative interactive visualizations for complex high dimensional data is required.
  • Familiarity with relational databases (as well as other database models) distributed/parallel computing and cloud computing preferred.
  • Experience with biomedical physiological and/or bioinformatics datasets required.
  • Ability to collaborate productively with interdisciplinary teams strong
  • verbal written and graphic communications skills and a demonstrated ability to present complex technical concepts to varied audiences are required
