Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery improvement research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services.

  • Permanent position
  • Full time (80 hours per fortnight monthly ADO)

The Department

Alfred Health Support Services provides non-clinical support services across Alfred Health these services include cleaning services car parking and fleet management waste management gardens and grounds distribution security and access control ward support linen services ancillary services food services and hospitality.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Cleaning Team Leader to operate as a key member of our Support Services this role you will assist the Cleaning Manager in the day-to-day supervision and management of all cleaning staff ensuring cleaning standards meet or exceed industry best practices.

This position is ideal for a proactive leader with 5 years of cleaning experience who is eager to grow into a full management role. The role will be performed in a manner that meets or exceeds industry best practice and maintains cleaning standards in accordance with the Department of Health Cleaning Standards for Public Hospitals. You will work closely with Support Services Coordinators to ensure we maintain a committed safe and socially responsible multi-skilled team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Cleaning Manager with daily operational management of cleaning staff.
  • Lead training mentoring and development of cleaning staff.
  • Lead and support a multi-skilled cleaning team to maintain high standards of hygiene and safety.
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Health Cleaning Standards and hospital policies.
  • Collaborate closely with Support Services Coordinators to foster a safe motivated and socially responsible team environment.
  • Monitor cleaning quality and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to inventory management and equipment maintenance.

Experience and Qualifications required

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years experience in hospital or large-scale cleaning operations with leadership responsibilities
  • Strong understanding of healthcare cleaning standards and infection control procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to lead motivate and develop teams
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Commitment to safety quality and social responsibility
  • Ambition to move into a management position with increased responsibility

Desirable

  • Leadership & Team Management: Ability to motivate mentor and develop a diverse cleaning team to maintain high performance and morale
  • Knowledge of Infection Control: Familiarity with healthcare-specific cleaning protocols and infection prevention practices
