About You As a Strength and Conditioning Coach you are responsible for leading the health and wellness initiatives to promote the physical fitness of Dexter Southfield students through strength training and aerobic conditioning. In seeking to promote peak performance you will also help students understand and demonstrate appropriate injury prevention and proper body mechanics as part of their training and sports performances. You must be self-motivated and demonstrate sound judgment to complete job assignments with minimal or no direct supervision. To be successful in this role you must be able to: - Design and implement strength training and conditioning programs and training plans for students school-sanctioned teams and sports programs
- Teach on the field and in the field house by utilizing the weight room
- Work with the Schools athletic trainers in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured student-athletes
- Design and recommend policies and procedures for strength and conditioning practices
- Track student attendance and progress in conjunction with coaches
- Work with coaches and athletic trainers to conduct a pre- and post-season needs analysis and implement needs-based programs
- Conduct an annual usage assessment and develop a risk management plan
- Ensure the routine maintenance and repair of strength and conditioning equipment
- Reinforce the Schools Code of Conduct standards with students
- Remain current in the field and actively engage in professional development activities
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications - Bachelors degree in kinesiology or other exercise science-related field required; advanced degree preferred
- Solid understanding of and proven experience as a practitioner
- Professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation agency
- Current standard first aid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications
- Knowledge of current NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards and Guidelines.
- Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
- A strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training
- Ability to motivate student-athletes
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others
- Must communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Punctual and consistent attendance good sense of humor and a strong work ethic
This role may require the incumbent to work extended hours including after school evenings and occasional weekends.
