DESCRIPTION
Responsible for performing grounds maintenance landscaping minor building repairs including building structures enhancing habitats repairing fences and assisting with other projects on the Zoo grounds.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical training or certification in maintenance construction or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience in maintenance facilities management or a related field is desirable.
- Must possess a valid Drivers License at time of placement.
- Must be available to work flexible hours including weekends holidays and occasional evenings to accommodate zoo operating hours and maintenance needs.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of maintenance techniques tools and equipment used in plumbing electrical carpentry and painting tasks at a basic level.
- Ability to follow instructions work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain including bending stooping and lifting objects up to 75 pounds.
- Skills in problem solving and attention to detail.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as painting plumbing repairs electrical work and carpentry to maintain zoo buildings exhibits and infrastructure.
- Conduct inspections of facilities and equipment to identify maintenance needs safety hazards and repair requirements.
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of zoo equipment including HVAC systems irrigation systems vehicles and power tools.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks on equipment and machinery to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Assist with groundskeeping tasks such as mowing weeding pruning and landscaping to maintain a clean and attractive environment for visitors.
- Monitor and report any landscaping issues such as irrigation leaks or pest infestations to the maintenance supervisor.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests emergency situations and facility issues to minimize disruptions to zoo operations and ensure the safety of visitors staff and animals.
- Assist with emergency repairs and cleanup efforts in the event of severe weather power outages or other unforeseen events.
- Adhere to safety protocols and zoo policies to maintain a safe work environment for oneself and others.
- Follow proper procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous materials chemicals and waste products.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position is an essential service position and will require providing services during emergency situations.
