Position Specific Summary
The Network Analyst position at the City of Tucsons Information Technology Department is responsible for providing analysis evaluation and support for the Network Services team.This position includes assisting with Cisco equipment configuration and installation including various network projects wireless site surveys and tickets.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Information Technology Manager. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
Evaluates installs and upgrades code on switches using Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) servers to ensure devices are running current and secure. Configures and verifies switch settings including port descriptions Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) port status and port types to align with network architecture and performance needs. Collaborates with Network Engineers to resolve escalated tickets through root cause analysis and process improvement recommendations.
Analyzes network service requests and troubleshoots both wired and wireless connectivity issues using command-line tools such as ping traceroute and name server lookup (nslookup). Utilizes network management tools to efficiently monitor the network make configuration changes and troubleshoot wireless connection issues.
Conducts and analyzes wireless site surveys by collecting floor plans gathering real-time signal data on-site and evaluates results. Recommends improvements such as adding or relocating access points and presents findings to the Network Engineer for approval.
Collects and uploads network performance data including wireless site survey results into network management software. Prepares and generates comprehensive reports based on this data to identify trends performance gaps and areas for improvement.
Maintains organization of network storage room. Coordinates with the Information Technology (IT) Asset Management team to receive inspect and prepare new equipment. Applies asset tags following documented procedures and executes surplus processes for outdated or unused equipment according to established policies.
Installs and updates code on local networks such as Cradlepoint devices while ensuring that each device maintains a current subscription-based license. Monitors license status and upcoming expirations and communicates when renewals are .
Contributes to IT initiatives and cross-departmental projects by providing technical insights and supporting data-driven decision-making.
Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
