Job Description

Summary


Are you an organized detail-driven professional with a passion for accuracy and process The City of Medford is hiring a Payroll Coordinator to play a vital role in ensuring our employees are paid accurately and on time. In this role youll manage payroll processing reconcile benefit accounts handle complex deductions and serve as a go-to resource for payroll-related questions across departments.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible administrative payroll accounting and analysis experience.
  • Bachelors degree in accounting business administration or other specific area of study as deemed applicable may substitute for two (2) years of experience.

Available Schedule:
  • 8 hours daily Monday - Friday

**Scheduled salary increases and a 2.5% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) are anticipated effective July 1 2025**

The anticipated hiring range forthePayroll Coordinatorposition is $34.29(first step) to $36.01or $37.81(second or third step).The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education experience andqualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act. Six steps are included in this salary range allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.

  • Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) lifetime pension after retirement at no cost to employee
  • PERS is 100% fully paid as the City pays both the employer and the employees (6%) contributions
  • Deferred Compensation retirement plan (Section 457 Plan) for employees retirement planning

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
This position requires indoor office desk work that includes exposure to regular office noise and distractions adequate lighting and regulated HVAC systems in relation to temperature. Routine physical discomforts from prolonged periods of standing or sitting at a desk and focusing on a computer screen may be experienced. Tasks performed include interactions with the public and potential contact to disruptive people.

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to accomplish each of the essential job functions satisfactorily. This position involves extended periods of sitting and standing with occasional walking crouching bending stooping twisting and turning. Adequate hearing visual acuity and the ability to communicate verbally are necessary. The employee is regularly required to operate a variety of automated office machines which include a computer printer copy machine telephone etc.
