Job Description:
DHHS Division of Child and Family Services is looking for the next Child and Family Services Learning and Development Supervisor!
Examples of Work
Duties include:
- Directs the operations of a unit of Child and Family Services Specialist Lead Workers to ensure the application of administrative and/or program policies and plans to work activities and to facilitate through advice and consultation the resolving of problems in the delivery of casework services.
- Plans assigns directs and evaluates the work of staff members including recommending personnel actions related to selection disciplinary procedures performance leaves of absence grievances work schedules and assignments to ensure efficient and effective accomplishment of work.
- Consults with other agency staff members and supervisors on determining the allocation of staff members and other resources to ensure coordination of agency actions and decisions and to achieve the goals and objectives of agency programs and services.
- Trains staff in the policies and procedures of social protective service casework to improve and maintain job performance levels and meet standards through exposure of necessary job knowledge and abilities.
- Serves as a mentor to other CFS Supervisors to enhance coaching and support to CFS Specialists.
- Assists other CFS Supervisors in retention efforts to prevent CFS Specialist turnover which impacts children and families served. Review trends in case data and CFS Specialist retention to determine what support is needed for CFS Supervisors and Specialists.
- Create training guidance and other resources to meet the needs.
- Plans and provides social/protective casework services to customers to handle individual complex and difficult cases and to ensure the needs of the customers are met.
- Confers with social work professionals in other organizations court and law enforcement staff and interested individuals in the community to promote and develop community resources and awareness of social welfare problems.
Qualifications/Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelors degree in social work psychology sociology counseling human development mental health care education criminal justice or other closely related area. Experience performing case management responsibilities in protective services alcohol/drug abuse juvenile justice probation counseling or social services delivery AND experience leading coordinating directing monitoring and/or supervising others.
Preferred Qualifications: At least two years of supervisory experience is preferred along with demonstrated project management skills. Ideal candidates will have experience leading change management efforts and supporting teams through new initiatives pilot projects or organizational transitions. A background in coaching staff promoting collaboration and using data to inform practice is highly valued.
Other: Valid Drivers License is Required.

- Leading and supporting a team to deliver high-quality child welfare casework that prioritizes child safety and family well-being.
- Developing staff professionally through mentoring training and coaching to include the creation of training materials guidance and curriculum to meet evolving staff needs.
- Ensuring consistent and policy-aligned case practice with attention to both compliance and meaningful outcomes for children and families.
- Driving change initiatives and supporting new projects or transitions helping your team adapt and stay focused on permanency and safety goals.
- Collaborating across systems and with external partners including legal and community stakeholders to coordinate effective service delivery.
- Using data to guide decisions monitor progress and support continuous improvement in both staff performance and case outcomes.
